MogTalk Episode 315 Current State of FFXIV

hawgacrux: I honestly don't understand why it's so hard to understand that there are players who enjoy dungeons the most and repeat them for glamour or just fun.

Dungeons were usually were much of the lore was hidden (Gelmora, Allagan reasearch) and the hard dungeons continued those little stories in a great way. Fruity was on point there.

I would even say dungeons should actually be the most important thing net to the overworld for an MMO instead of 8man boss fights.

I agree with Happy that unreal dungeons or even getting more expert dungeons imo would give more than variant and criterion.

Personally unreal dungeons would offer way more for me because it's just different to do a dungeon or play dance number 234342 in an Ex fight.

The DT Ex dungeons showed that dungeons can be really fun still and more of them would be a boon because people exist who just want to hop in with three others in moderately challenging content and not studying raid plans.

The amount of content for 8 man statics really starts to eclipse everything else slowly.

Also... Eureka Orthos was just bad...

Rehashed models, more Allagan which I (and maybe others) are just tired at this point, very few floors and rewards that were just not interesting.

And the story was also just there to end an old questline.

kavlar3: Everyone I know greatly disliked the 7.0 and 7.1 storylines. Most quit after 7.1. 7.2 was a step in a positive direction, but still wasn't enough to bring old friends back.

MellowSquash: Imo Dawntrail is an expansion that will look better with time much like Stormblood. It introduces some great battles, the graphics update, return to actual content unlike EW, top tier raids and more coming on the way.

Edge2177: Variant Dungeons should be on a roulette

ChrisKatsu-: I agree. Nothing at fan fest should be further than x.2. That puts content at the latest about what? 18months? Down the line? (Till x.2 from any FF announcement) putting announcements in fan fest for content not releasing for 2-3years is just inviting complaints.

Xukerino: Unreals need like a weekly rotation or to be able to be selectable in the DF. In the next 10 years of the game (my prediction) everyone is going to want to do the old stuff scaled up and/or MINE. This would give our limited jobs a slot opportunity at least 1 spot in these parties. For fun isn't going to be a weird term at this point of the game and it's already happening now where people are doing content MINE Stormblood and Beyond. The game definitely supports "Timewalking" in a sense but its up to the players to rally others to do so.

SageRasalas: I think it's kinda hilarious that MrHappy is echoing the sentiment a lot of people have about Variant Dungeons being boring, having no replayability, you can do the alternate paths 3 times or so and it's just lost all its charm...but Variant Dungeons is basically what people have been begging SqEnix to make the normal dungeons into. They want branching paths, choices, better rewards than just some low I-Lvl gear (the Variants do give better rewards than a typical dungeon). So it kinda proves that even those changes wouldn't make players happy with the game.

Autobots07: Im going to disagree with Fruity at near the start of the episode when he said that Cosmic forces people to craft without using macros. Macros are still totally a thing, Ive even used them. However, they have made it that there are so many variables that you cant have a ton of macros, but there are still plenty of macros that can be found on TeamCraft.

MugiwarasNakama: The game is absolutely fine. We have grown so accustomed to having the constant flood of WoW refugees and new players all over the game since the end of ShB that we have forgotten what the game was like before they came here XD These down turns in activity are absolutely nothing knew... it's just that there was so many people playing catch up during Endwalker that it kinda cushioned and disguised the fact that practically the same shit was happening during Endwalker as well.

Usually the turnaround period is around the x.25-x.3 patch cycle that the game starts to upswing again. (It won't reach the height of the expansion launch though... it never does.) Then the hype for the next expansion begins where their will be a huge up and down up and down swing toward the end of the expansion and the whole thing begins all over again. That has always been the pattern with FFXIV.... which is why Naoki Yoshida famously said once... "...we don't mind if if people decided to take a break and come back when new content is released." Which ultimately I feel is very healthy for the game cause people never truly burn themselves out like they used to in old school mmos like FFXI and Everquest.

It was always fated to happen that the WoW refugees would eventually return to WoW and that the hype surrounding the climax of Hydaelen/Zodiark arc would die down. But the game imho is still incredibly healthy.

Small Edit here : just to clarify this comment was posted before I viewed the videos contents and is mainly just me airing out my opinion of the current state of the game given all the doom postings I've been seeing of the game lately.

MurakamiTenshi: I wish they would have just brought back Hardmode dungeons, and rolling the variant dungeon mechanics into them. Increase the Gil and tomestone rewards. Bring back rare drops in 4-mans, like the Magitek Reaper in the Ala Mihgo dungeon (put some of the cash shop mounts in these dungeons as rare drops while they're at it.)

SE keeps taking away engaging content in the name of making things so easy a dog can play.

violetbliss4399: About dungeons, I just enjoy content with smaller player numbers, for me that's way more what I'm looking for in an rpg. With larger size, more logistics is introduced, and design becomes less fun from a 'fantasy' standpoint for me.

I am admittedly a weird player though, my favourite ways to do instance content is either with friends (so easier to do small groups) or 100% random pugging (so eg roulette) where no run is the same. The thing I don't do is party finder content, because the logistics take me out of it and I have to talk more with new people most times, and I'm timid then.

Loved this episode Frosty, always enjoy getting to hear from you and Happs chat, and I have never seen Fruity Snacks on anything before, he was great and I thought the three of you had great energy. Can't wait to hear what you all think of Occult Crescent when it gets here.

mpales9431: Huh? Why is Dawntrail bad? I feel like like there’s more content and rewards than ever - so much that I can’t even keep up.

I guess that’s why I rarely watch ff14 creators because they sound so dramatic about everything. You like it and play or you don’t and stop. Not like the game has changed drastically - there is just more of it.

KingOfHeartsTANK: The problem was Endwalkers combatnwas poorly designed with body checks, artificial difficulty since job performance isnt expected as much as StB and before and DPS checks are nearly non-existent, so the fun from mastering tour job is gone and making fights harder with this 1s eternal delay for snapshots boiled down to punishing everyone for one person's mistake, not in their job but not standing in the right spot in the right way .

Nimoot: Honestly think they should have a roulette that forces you to be MINE in w/e dungeon you go into for an alternative for 'Expert Roulette' and you should be able to spam it for Tomestones because you can't do it QUICKLY because you won't be out-gearing the content.

tiersei: The packet argument about customization is such a weak one. Plenty of games send more player customization info for gear dye channels and character customization options and they do it efficiently. I mean the fact that they'll be using those dye channels on mobile alone should tell you that some of the problem is actually with 14's code and the server infrastructure.

stellastar9226: I'm just frustrated how long it takes the devs to implement stuff into the game.

For example: During the Media Tour for Dawntrail, Yoshi-P himself confirmed in an interview with Preach that they are working on chat bubbles. They are still not in the game now. That was 11 months ago. A hobby modder can do this within a week.

Pikaru-c4u: I feel ff14 is in a bad state. Comsic exploration was a huge miss. Dynamis has already pretty much stopped. It’s boring and it’s repetitive crafting. If u dnt raid, what do u do? Ur daily roulettes? I’m almost done with my society quest but I’m goin slow like every other day cause if I finish, I won’t be playing ever. I’m social sometimes but I do find the community cringe, everyone is so horny and it’s such a turn off. I just wanna have a normal convo without erp coming up or without cringe internet try hard lingo. As a guy who plays a female it sucks, I can only imagine how bad this game is if ur actually a biological women (yes I had to say biological because there a lot of guys who claim to be non binary but still like girls in this community…like I said,cringe” this video also is showing me what a try hard mr.happy is, is he always this smug acting? Ur not jacked, put ur arms down. Team frosty lol

shiyuuhq9370: Nothing good about FF14, I've never had a moment where my eyes widened in awe. I hate myself for playing this game for 10 years, only to waste my time on it. Nowadays even worse, the sloth that is PF is all liars, cheaters, and clear buyers, that barely understand tank busters. The only thing keeping me subbed are the sprinkle of friends who 'want' to do content, even then, I think I drag them down with my negativity. Oh btw, 16 dye channels for mobile version, where we can barely have 1. Let's 'hope' that Cope Fantasy 14 decides to give us nice things, but until then, I'll continue to mod my game for 'some' entertainment since that community seems to be the ones that care about the aesthetics of the game than SE.
