MrCarlWax: 5 years ago I was a bard who walked around playing music for people waiting for queues to pop during MSQ. I walked into Uldah and saw 2 bunnies talking about wanting a bunny jump like worgen has their on-all-four sprint racial. I said I'd be the background music for their conversation and played some songs.

One of those bunnies became my wife and we're still playing FFXIV as I'm typing this.

Metataros: Even as a player on-and-off for almost 10 years in XIV i had the same issue of feeling awkward about talking to others but after a certain point i adopted the most ridiculous looking glamour fit and it made it feel so much easier to talk to randos when you look like a goofus lol also noticed we're on the same server so hope to see ya around the streets of Gilga lmao !!

eyrilonakestrysswyn3513: If trying to talk to random people out of the blue feels too much like imposing yourself, another strategy for shy people to get into networks of people is to look for people already doing something interesting, and engaging with what they are doing instead of starting something yourself. That way you know you can feel fairly confident you are contributing to what someone is trying to do, rather than worry if you are keeping someone from doing something they were on their way to. Venues are a good bet -- the role players gather there, and they are the most likely out of all players to be more than willing to strike up a conversation because socializing is how they play (at least part of) the game.

ElderGamerX: I brought a bunch of my WoW people over to FF14 when I migrated over, so I never had the real new player social experience. But in Dawntrail, they all quit the game during 7.0, and when I came back to try 7.4 and 7.5, I realized I was alone in the game for the first time.

Looking forward to attempting social interaction like this when I come back for Evercold. This was low-key inspiring.

chu1990: For me it was in joining an FC and just see who you vibe with. I joined an FC advertised for people more likeminded to me since FF14 is a very social game, and now I made friends with some of the FC mates that i game with inside and outside the game. Sometimes you do get that random girl or guy that comments on your glam and next thing you know you end up finding your soon to be best friend and or partner (ive seen it happen many times) its all about the vibes and not trying too hard to not be wierd or too much LOL

Princessk8: I was blessed to be able to make some friends in FFXIV even though for years I played completely solo. I even still talk regularly and met IRL with a great friend I met in the game. Lots of horror stories out there, so everyone should be smart and careful about the people you meet, but there are also good people in the game too.

I have an FC of 5 people, and I don't advertise it in the chat because I feel weird about it haha.... I want more people to join/befriend but I have a hard time talking to random people.
