Shopping CartDarkrimo: Just MMOs Communitys being MMOs Communitys, i dont kow a single MMO where the Community is not yelling "Game is Dead" all the time
magicelf4588: Im a destiny 2 refugee. I started ff14 january of 2025. I just caught up to current content and maxed all jobs and see plenty of people in game all the time. Enough to congest entire worlds and data centers. Hearing people say this game is dead as a D2 player is so laughable. They dont knownwhat a dead game actually is. Anthem is a dead game. Concord is a dead game. Highguard is a dead game. Destiny 2 is gonna join Anthem at the pearly gates.....the other 2 didnt get up there.
Kutsutsu: Share strategies in the strategy board? Why would someone do that?
aaronvillanueva3592: I dont know if this related, but it is very exhausting hearing a lot of people say that dawntrail is bad. But when you look into why people say that, its 80% (a bit generous probably) "wuk lamat bad story bad" and doesn't mention the good things DT did. I know people are more interested in the bad than in the good, and I have my own issues with DT, but there comes a point when you ask yourself if you're being overly negative. Not to mention some people mention things that aren't about the game, what does the voice actor's gender have to do with dawntrail like
liasprings6502: Hoping this starts with an explanation of what death actually means, because is a game truly dead if you can still play it?
Iamkitkatbar: 5:15 the ultrawide monitor buff is insane to have, you can see entire arenas
chuckmarius323: I'm a newer player, I only started playing at the end of ew, anabaseios was my frist raid tier in this game and man I love the game, I enjoyed the fuck out of dawntrail and the arcadion savage. that's what I'm after in my mmos, hardcore fights and I'm very happy with the game, hell I even like the current jobs, the 2 minute meta, I think they're all pretty fucking good, the stories I hear about earlier exp sound like a fucking nightmare to me. As for the game dying... lmao, I played dying games, neverwinter online was my main mmo for a long time, then lost ark. I've been in dying games before, I don't think ffxiv is anywhere near that stage.
Darknile: During the WoW comparison, I could not tell what was going on there. Then again it is a clip without context and I'm not sure what is modded and what os part of the game.
SpearChaku: Ff14 will never die, even ff11 is still alive. Unless they release like ff17 mmo or whatever number and ff14 players move there, but ff14 will still live.
idaret.: i did not play in HW but from what i understand in HW crafted gear wasn't easy to obtain so that was last time when having both crafted, alliance and raid gear made some sense
JohnDCrafton: Are there really people who are seriously saying something like, "I don't like the game anymore and I want it to die."? How selfish can a person be? I mean what about all of the people who are still enjoying the game?
SirZero14: So FFXIV is the only MMO I play. I've tried others and they just can't keep me the same way this one can. The game is truly, for me anyways, overflowing with things to do. I enjoy raids, deep dungeons and have been spending a lot of time exploring field ops lately. And most importantly, I have a really good group of friends to play it with. It has it's issues, all of which I won't ignore and criticize when appropriate. This game is far from dead like the doomsayers would have people believe and I'm hopeful for the future with Evercold. I'm setting realistic expectations ofc as change is a slow and messy process but I do believe the devs can improve the game with what they have planned and I'm looking forward to what the future brings.
masterplusmargarita: If you listen to the community, the only times I've ever played a multiplayer game that wasn't dead or dying were Hearthstone during its release window and FFXIV during ShB and early EW.
vibun: they’ve been saying the game was dead since like the middle of post Endwalker lol
DarkDyllon: I disagree with "back to normal"
People see it as a failure on SE's part because they had so many chances to retain those players, or at least a portion, but instead, we returned to "normal" aka, they essentially evened out again instead of growing from it.
The game is far from dying, but it's clear that the game is stagnating, hopefully with EC it'll boom again, but the fact that we had 3 major events that increased the playercount happened and essentially nobody of that stayed, is worrying.
(Asmon playing FF14, people can love or hate him, but he did bring eyes on the game outside of it's usual sphere)
(WoW shitting itself)
(COVID)
There's generally end of expansion drop off because no new content and the wait for the next expac, but DT has seen the biggest drop off in the history of the game, obviously has a lot to do that the MSQ is just bad and also how long it takes for SE to bring out content, then combined that early on DT, the content people were hyped for wouldn't drop till the later half of the expansion's cycle, meaning that those people already lost the interest to return.
viviblue7277: I really hope the blue mage update isn’t postponed that long. Blue mage has become one of the things I enjoy most in the game, but with it stagnating for so long even my blue log static collapsed and couldn’t find new players, let alone just grabbing a party of blue mages via party finder.
But yeah obviously the game isn’t dying.
Behemoth-EX: Most players don't know what "dead" means nor do they know what a dead game looks like
ClassicChrisGaming: I haven't played Final Fantasy XIV for a while now because I'm not in a good enough financial spot to justify it, especially with the constant rising costs of stuff like rent, electricity, and other stuff. That, and I want a house someday, so I gotta have SOMETHING for the savings
I'll probably come back to the game itself sometime in the future, but "best I can do is 5 bucks", as they say.
gazel7424: I wish jobs weren't made to be less interesting nowadays even if it sacrifice fight difficulty, as having similar jobs (in comparison) and a single more interesting fight give you less stuff to optimise, whereas more interesting jobs would each have different niche stuff to optimise per fight, well at least that's how I personally feel.
Osteichthyes: "Game is dead" really just feels like "I have an issue that might have been addressed (I don't know because I walked away and now am assuming that nothing was done), and I want to be so validated that I want the game to cataclysmically fail just so I can say I was right". I've heard so many people say "Dawntrail is objectively bad because the MSQ was terrible and too much Wuk Lamat", which doesn't make sense because those are SUBJECTIVE opinions. Even when things change, the opinions seldom follow.
Personally I blame algorithm farming content so many videos with titles like "FFXIV is DYING. Players number PLUMMET post launch". It's clickbait, and it's effective. Even with this channel, the job retrospectives had the thumbnail say "What went wrong with X", while the title also had "Or was it right?". Whether it's patch notes that say "Everything is getting EASIER!" (when in the video they proved that it wasn't), or hyperbolic titles like "1 step forward 50 steps BACK", there is a constant stream of negativity because that's what gets clicks.
It's grievances that's being amplified to an insane degree. It's an attempt at a self-fulfilling prophecy just to be validated. The game has bee "dying" in every expansion, but it's still around. It might be more correct to say "The game has stagnated", which would be more correct, and something that the devs are trying to address in EC. But that doesn't get the same clicks. It doesn't get the same reactions. Everything has to be the worst, and everyone needs to be absolutely afraid over everything all the time. Doom-scrolling is a term that exists for a reason.
MrsLittletall: I always like to say "No one hates FF14 more than the people who play FF14." And the ones who have quit and don't stop looking up stuff about the game are the worst. I personally played WoW for 15 years. And I also joined the Exodus. I was very disappointed in the Blizzard scandal but also the game had stopped being fun. What I don't do is going to the subreddit and tell everyone the game they like sucks. Which seems to be a very common thing in MMO spaces. How about you just accept that the game is not for you anymore and stop getting people miserable with you?
And I have to admit, and yes, I am petty, I am kinda proud that I stayed subbed through the entirety of Dawntrail while I see a surplus of returners lately. I already had my Demi Atma for a year and a half, welcome to the grind! The good thing is that it makes the Occult Crescent really populated, I might be able to level the rest of my phantom jobs before North Horn releases ^^
And last, but not least, I just don't know how the game can be dead when I get insta invites as DPS sometimes. Wow, the game is so dead, guys! You just have to accep that there are people who like the game and play it regularly and have fun. And I also noticed something about me. I don't care about the rewards?! I did Enuo Extreme and then tried to wing farm and it was like... not nice. I had much more fun to get the CLEAR. I think I am chasing the high of success and not the high of getting a rare item.
porina_pew: Thanks for reminding me about the awful tank situation in StormBlood. I consider myself a casual dps and it was too easy to grab aggro off the tank in roulette content since they were always in dps mode. After dying to this a few times I basically found myself not attacking for several seconds after a battle start to avoid this, and there weren't enough enmity reducing skills so I even had to stop attacking at times in boss battles.
MelissiaBlackheart: Playing on Crystal, here... I started playing up until the end of ARR on a demo account back near the start of the game, then lost my account and basically forgot about FF14 until Endwalker. I got a new account, happily worked my way through the entire campaign during Endwalker, and have not noticed any decrease in playerbase.
As someone who prefers DPS as a low-stress role (though I also have two tanks and two healers at 100) the queues have always sucked and I haven't noticed them getting any worse. If anything they've gotten a little better over time.
BiggusYuichi: I jut came back from 3 year break. It is still alive and fun as ever.
yalo3162: They don’t really mean it’s literally dead like it’s shutting down. It can just be the vibe, or the numbers are lower. And the vibe and numbers were in fact both lower. But now it’s revitalized partly from the fights in the past several months, and especially because of Evercold.
solomonsneed8616: It's actually insane how much both wow and ffxiv got better because each one sees the other now as a viable competitor
heickelrrx: I still regularly play and already put a crysta on my account for all the way until next year
I don’t even know why, but my FC friend are all fun , during content drought like this, just hang out already good
Maybe I’ll do ultimate when it drop
