FFXIVs RNG Design NEEDS To be Fixed

aliope1086: The grind wouldnt feel as bad if they let us level main jobs while grinding. No idea why they removed that when they had it in bozja

Himamoto-bl3yn: The more I play, the more I realize this community is full of crybabies. You can't do anything without whining because it wasn't handed to you on a silver platter. It's honestly pathetic. And in the end, the devs actually listen to people like you, making the game easier and easier, only for you to turn around and whine again that there's nothing left to do.

KingHeggunte: Hey, look at all the comments from people who didn’t actually watch the video and only come along with their strawman defense of poorly designed content.

No one really wants their relic or jobs handed to them without effort. People just want to feel like their time is being respected and to have a tangible sense of progress from the effort put in. The problem with the jobs and atma isn’t the grind itself, it’s that the things you need are 100% uncontrollable RNG. Meaning you can easily do literally the same number of FATES as someone else, they get everything they need in only a few hours, while you—keeping in mind you’ve literally put in the same amount of effort by this point—have nothing to show for it, and no way to estimate when you might finish, even after grinding for additional days. That’s poor game design, because your progress is being cucked through no fault of your own.

There is no reason I should be able to end a session of several hours with zero progress made towards my goal, and yet that has happens. No, the atma step being a one-time thing does not justify the drop rate being so poor.

SirUmnei: Believe it or not, they do not design the content for you to grind out everything by no lifing the game during a week. The RNG feels really bad because people literally do nothing but attempt to speedrun the relics and jobs. RNG is frustrating, but at the same time, it's not like this content is going anywhere any time soon. It's going to be here for a long time, there's no FOMO, there's no rush. Complaining that "Oh no, I have to grind 10 more FATEs" in a type of content that is LITERALLY only grinding FATEs is a bit ignorant if you ask me. And if you don't like that, then the content is just not for you. IDK why people force themselves to do content they don't like. It took me over 20 tries to get the Oracle jobstone, but I wasn't mad nor frustrated, since the entire time I was progressing in other ways (Ph. Job EXP, Chest Runs, Gold Farming, etc). And the main part that is actually important, which is gearing your jobs, had 0 RNG. To top it off, Berserker, Ranger and Oracle aren't even good Ph. Jobs in the grand scheme of things. They're fun, yeah, I know, but you really shouldn't be complaining about drop rates on something like this.

I do agree

darkmatter3726: This content will be out and relevant for atleast the next year, people need to stop rushing so hard to get through it in the first couple of weeks. The atma grind is also a one time thing and takes an avg of 20-30 hours playing exclusively in the new zone; its really not that bad and is exactly what a large portion of the community was begging for during the EW relic release. I get that some people don't like it, but it doesnt make it bad game design just because its not everyones cup of tea. You can even target which atmas you're looking for in OC by only attending the fates/CEs that drop them and ignoring the rest if you really want to.

ZfanzockerHD: Y'all can't make up your mind smh

In Endwalker, there was not enough grind and busy work and now, with a tiny bit of inconvenience, everybody screams? Remember, once you are done with the demiatma, the grind is over, its back to tomes again, which means you get the relics passively.

With the soul shards, maybe I'm very lucky, but I get those plenty and other people I know too, so the percentage must not be that bad right? Maybe the examples you were giving were just outliers and do not represent the real values, for me, that seems way more likely.

This content had been designed to be tackled with consistent pacing over a long period of time (remember, what we wished for in EW, longform busy work) and not be rushed through in a bulk so "its done", then everybody would whine again that they have nothing to do.

Don't burn yourself out on purpose! Take breaks and then come back when you are done resting

FitzThis: Literally unsubbed over OC after all the previous letdowns. The rng grind felt so bad. Being able to optimise and target your progression will always feel better than rng.

bshwavy4193: if it wasn't difficult people would finish in a week and get bored then we'd be having the lack of content discussion again about FFXIV lmao i've been extremely critical of Dawntrail but at some point yall have to admit that you have a problem with everything FFXIV related. New grind content with tons of rewards, glams, mounts, boss fights, fates in a new area, thats bringing back the feeling of an MMO - but the grind content is too grindy.

JS-kr8fs: I was just talking to a friend who never played FFXI about all the RNG bullshit we put up with FFXI, that reflects in FFXIV as field operations, and why I don't do field operations--because it's FFXI. The old school MMO design had its pitfalls, and RNG-based progression was a real Sarlacc pit.

evans178: > joins a grind content > procedes to cry about having grind

Sals-Clips: I grinded all of my Atma in the OC because I knew I was going to be doing and enjoying the CE the same I enjoyed them in zadnor. Instead of playing 5-8 hours a day, people need to play it just a hour or so and forget about the drops. It’s what I did and managed to get everything. I just stopped taking this game seriously and had fun.

1Mrstephen: I had no problem at all with Demiatmas and Phantom Job drops.

It’s “grind” content…. You’re supposed to have to grind to get all the items. It is NOT supposed to be done in a day, a week a month, depending on how much you play.

Everyone stop crying and just play the game. If you’re the one (people in general) complaining about grind content being grind content you’re absolutely going to be the one to complain that there is not content when this dies down.

saladinboss2507: I felt so bad. I joined a fate party in Living Memory for folks that had been in there all day grinding with little progress. Then I got all three rocks in just my first 5 fates....I stayed a little longer, but it just felt wrong. Lol

Athreous: We need more ways to make our character better. since launch, there's only armour, accs, weapons, materias and thats about it, there's nothing else to improve our characters...

regnimar: Tbh the croissant feels like they have sewn together some of the worst aspects of eureka and bozja, like the incredibly low bozja field notes droprates or eureka's easy-to-troll baldesion queueing system

solidshadow01: Been playing since ARR first dropped and I've generally been ok with the light level of grind in the past. All I really wanted out of this one was to get my weapons started so I could collect them for all the jobs. After doing some Occult Crescent for 4 hours I managed to get 4 random Atma. Later I tried grinding fates in the dawntrail zones and got none. I then realized that gathering poop and fighting monsters in Monster Hunter felt more rewarding so I've been doing that instead. When I was young I would play Ultima 4 and 5 for 12 hours a day all summer, but as an adult, I value my free time more so if it doesn't feel rewarding, I just won't do it. I've learned that (within the context of reward/time) there's no such thing as Casual/Hardcore gamer, there's just people who value their time and people who don't, or at least don't understand that time is diminishing resource.

a-a-ron9027: 60 fates with guaranteed drops (ShB stage 2) felt waaaaay better than 18 drops with 5% drop rate

redrebel91: I refuse to believe you actually put in the hours instead of Gposing. my guy you can get them all very fast and you dont need to farm them again for the other weapons. stop complaining over anything its not productive anymore. that goes to all youtubers.

seinexer: i think i would be better if we have gotten a stone tablet, which loaded with energy after a fate for the specific atma and if one type of atma is full the energy is split to the other types

EdgeGilid: all i see are people complaining cuz they have no patience.

dreadqueenmaeve: Look me and my BF farmed a single zone for 2hrs straight and I got 3 atma and he got NONE. We eventually quit and haven’t tried again.

Xport9: Nah. I like it this way. All the more reason to grind.

Infectedjohn: What are you even talking about? Drop rate is somewhere from 5% to 10% for berserker/oracle/ranger. I have mastered 6 jobs, probably have done each CE more than 50 times but I have seen Oracle drop at least 4 times which I just sell back for 10 silver, It is NOT that bad, people who have mastered all 12 probably have seen it even more.

bakalicious8673: Why do europeans always start crying when it comes to farming?! :D

drarko91: Bad take. RNG is RNG.

ShandraVdeG: It would be nice to have a backup "bad luck" system. For a large number of gold (to show how long you've been grinding) you can buy a "clear demiatma" that can be slowly powered by doing certain fates. You can only have 1 clear stone at a time and it powers up slowly (1% or less every fate for a certain demiatma), but with a long time grind would fill in the gap of "I'm missing only a single demiatma and have had the rest for weeks.

naotohex: The problem with low drop rates is that a 1% droprate is that hitting it never feels rewarding, like oh boy someone spent all day for 1 crystal while I got mine in 10 minutes! theres no balance. If it was a 30% chance and you had to get 10 of each at least then it would feel like even if you hit the drop rate it feels more balanced.

The best of all worlds is if the game calculated it and lets say after 10 fates in an area it dropped it guaranteed, so if we stuck with the 3 of each rock you would still need to do a max of 30 fates for each path.
