Shopping Cartazuuku: There's a good macro that I want to recommend for you for the sprint macro instead.
/merror off
/micon sprint
/ac "Mount Roulette" (or any mount you prefer)
/ac "Sprint"
/ac "Peloton" (optional)
This will let you sprint anywhere you want where mount is unavailable, or in combat, but let you mount automatically anywhere else. (You could also jump and hit the button to just sprint without mounting up instead.)
All of this baked into one button.
votes4cows: As a new player, these videos are an absolute godsend, thank you. I'm playing on PS Portal mostly, so the UI changes make a big difference on the small screen. But the biggest value has been in figuring out how best to set up my cross hotbars optimally.
XalenderWhyte: I play primarily on MnK but I have a ROG Ally I use at work and stuff so I've been looking for a guide for days - THANK YOU.
ProfessM: I'm more amazed people can play 14 with a keyboard.
dimitriblaiddyd1845: I do gotta say this was very helpful to me as I’m returning back but I am having an issue where I hold RT in my character walks. I’ve been trying to figure out how to fix it, but hasn’t found an answer yet.
Xion_Stellar: I have to wonder if I should even bother optimizing my controller setup that I have been using for years now by following this guide if 60% of the video becomes optimally irrelevant with the introduction of Evolved Mode in January that is (by design) both stronger to use and squishes the job actions to fit on a single Cross Bar and 1/2 Wide Cross Bar setup.
Dumnorix76: Why do you use your [ Assist ] macro when there's an option for binding the thumbs stick to Assist target ?
DonRayan909: Duuuuuude this is the gem of FFXIV controller guides keep up the good work cause I'll definitely follow your guides now and in evercold
crazychemist6413: Good guide Filmire!
OneEyedRyuujin: Good stuff here, Filmire. Will definitely be sharing this with my sprout friends.
Walkymilian54: Excellent guide!
sporedrive4012: Great guide. Thank you.
leonsnake31: First ha. love your vids keep it up my guy.
AnathemaSG: Thank You!
screeaveDestination: Thank you so much for your controller videos! I regularly recommend them to other controller users.
I wish they would make it possible to activate the double crosshotbar with L2 R2/R2 L2 and the extended crosshotbar with double L2/R2. So we are able to freely decide how both are accessible and displayed. That would be much more comfortable for my hands.
jesternonsense5516: I have a similar setup but mine is a bit more cleaned up. Having 4 full hot bars on my screen gets in the way a lot. So for my W and Y hot bar I only use the face buttons so when I double tap the L2 or R2 I just have those 4 buttons on each side. My cross hot bar has things like my gap closer and ranged skills and tank stance. I have a primary hot bar for AOE dungeon mods and ads, and one for single target boss and raid fight. I just tap R1 to jump to my single target and hold R1 and tap triangle to go back to AOE.
Example GNB: Hot bar 1 (AOE) the right side has my filler 1,2,3, and blood fest on the face buttons. And burst strike, heart of corundum, blasting zone and Aurora on the directional buttons. Left has my 1,2 AOE filler, fated circle, and double down on the face buttons. Bow shock, Nebula, heart of light, and continuation on the directional buttons. Hot bar 2 (single target bar by tapping R1.) on the right side is set up the same but blasting zone is replaced with rampart. And on the left I have Gnashing fang, continuation, double down, and blasting zone on the face buttons and the directional buttons are the same. My W and Y hot bar have things like the role action and other cool downs. So Reprisal low blow, arms length, and provoke on the left double tap, and right double tap had superbolide, camouflage, shirk, and rampart ( to be used in aoe) and my cross bar on the right hold has gap closer, Gnashing fang, continuation, (So I can easily access it in AOE if needed.) and a few party target macros on the face buttons. and party macros and directional buttons for heart of corundum. Left has party macros on two the face buttons, and limit break and tank stance. Teleport, return, food and mount on the directional buttons. The targeting sets are pretty much the same as how you have them set. And if I summon my Chocobo I have a separate hot bar for that. This all keeps my screen clean and allows me to have the target enemy cast bar more visible as well as debuffs and buff on me, the enmity list, and party list all in my vision without clutter, and be able to see what the fight is doing. I have this setup with all 4 tanks, dragoon, and Viper, as those are the jobs I play. But all that said this was a good and well explained video on how to set all this up especially with the settings. Nice work and keep up the great videos!
AGrumpyWitch: A great video. I think I'm going to sign up for the free trial on PS5 with a new account and level an entirely new character just using controller. That should help the muscle memory stick Will use this and your other videos as a guide. Thank you!
sterlingmartin3235: Are you going to do this for evolved mode when it comes out? I was thinking of borrowing your suggestions as I was trying to teach my daughter to play on a controller (I use the keyboard with a multibutton mouse myself so most of the hotbar is handled by my thumb with some combo of ctrl, shift or alt). My setup works for most things (and is comfy) but unfortunately does sometimes disrupt movement so it's not perfected. Unfortunately I was playing with my daughter the other day and noticed her clicking on the hotbar with her mouse (while she had lowest threat in the group) so I knew she needs a little help!
crochi: Hey Filmire, awesome as always, thanks for keeping the controller content coming! Do you know if when using the configuration sharing code does it override your existing macros? If so, would you consider creating a macro page on your website? You shared some pretty cool ones in a lot of videos, but they are a bit spread
Xbob42: Man, now I kinda want to do a Steam Controller version of this video. I've played with gamepad for ages, but the capacitive thumbsticks and trackpads have been especially useful for me as a healer main. Right trackpad (which I have disabled if I'm touching the right joystick) becoming a mouse, and my right trigger turning into a mouseclick if I'm actively using the right trackpad, means targeting random dead people in Occult Crescent is a breeze, as targeting an individual out of dozens of people that aren't in your party can be especially frustrating on gamepad, even with custom targeting options. It also helps for hovering over debuffs and other select UI items that can be frustrating on a gamepad.
Capacitive thumbsticks, on the other hand, know when you're touching (not moving) the thumbsticks. Pair this with there being four rear buttons on the controller, and bam, you've got the fastest possible method to target all 8 party members! Faster even than mouse and keyboard because your fingers already rest on these buttons, meaning they require zero movement to activate aside from lifting your thumb like 1 centimeter off the thumbstick to switch targeting "layers." And all that means is that you target party members 1-4 while your finger is off the thumbstick, and 5-8 when it's resting on the thumbstick. Or vice versa if that feels more natural. Took a few alliance raids to get used to, but man it's super fast and effortless once you get the hang of it. Targeting party members is already pretty easy on gamepad, but going from easy to instant is still a big leap! Especially for those towards the middle of the list like party members 4-6.
Only had the controller for a bit, so I'm sure more will come to mind, but even outside of in-game functions, turning the left trackpad into a media control setup has also been great! Play/pause my current video, previous/next video, volume up and down, all with a flick the thumb has just made it more pleasant to deal with Youtube without having to even move my mouse to my other screen or futz with my keyboard!
MarcusG2G: the best ffxiv tutorial channel im stuck between kbm and controller which do u play on and what platform ?
BarbellMethod: In PvP--I haven't found a way to only target the enemy players and not the nodes. I've adjusted the filters but it's still a nightmare.
YourGMJay: i can't get tap switching to work at all. It doesn't cycle between my bars at all.
arturius9715: How do I write the macros like you have them with green and red parentheses?
pedroffline: What does the green and red arrows mean in the macros? How to add them on ps5?
seaside18th: Do you use any shaders or are my eyes playing tricks on me? Lol
skroogemcduk8941: Has anyone else tried using the configuration share code on Xbox? It crashes my game. Is there a fix for this?
