FFXIV Mythbusters When we make a Big Deal out of Small Gains!

akiriith: that title is so funny to me bc most of your videos feel like to me like discussing gains over very small changes like... almost always lmao

hirudemonstrife: I love the confusion when saying the chance for a scholar to be dance partnered by a dancer and thus getting devilment. Actually had an instance of that yesterday when me and a buddy went into a variant dungeon as a dancer and a scholar. No we didn't do it for the recitation adlo, That never even crossed our mind, but I find it funny that the instance came up just before this

eragon3942: Thanks for going over Art of War again!! I love your mythbusters series, so seeing it here made my day, especially with how in depth you went into it!!

treefrog697: Hello! I'm a new player and I was wondering if you could explain how lb is actually charged? Is it damage based or just time?

17Master: Guys, I’m starting to think Art of War may be a gain on one up to level 53.

OnyxShard1: I think the biggest hint for Recitation Adlo not being benefited by something like Battle Litany/Devilment is solely in the wording of the skill descriptions itself. Recitation and Adlo both mention "critical HP", while the other skills mention "critical hit". Despite the Critical Hit stat (and by extension Savage Aim materia) affecting healing restored with crits, in this case critical healing =/= critical hit, as I believe the latter is solely referring to critical damage ("hit")

(Now the word critical doesn't sound like a real word

kotagi9326: I was wondering about the LBs and what was better to use, glad you did test it (i'm so lazy sometimes xD)

What ruin LB1 is literaly its animation lock at the end that's insane lol, it's like it's designed to be used as the very last thing of a fight.

Also idk if you tested this on the channel but: "Shields can prevent some mechanics (like Kefka no heal debuff?) and can prevent you to get a vuln stack if it doesn't touch your HP (only the shield without breaking it(in certain cases?))."

Maybe that can be something to test.

Ty for your Mythbusters videos

EntityXIII: I enjoyed your limit break discussion here, though it did trigger a memory I had from Ifrit HM back in 2.5 when the level cap was still 50.

Imagine getting off two Heal LB3s--TWO OF THEM--in a single pull. It was rough. Haha

idonotwantthis: The strangest "myth" I've heard time and time again is that Dark Knight is comparably less "tanky" than the other tanks, particularly at lower levels. While I can believe that WAR is a lot more survivable than all the other tanks at around level 56 and onwards because of the massive sustain it gets from Raw Intuition, the level range I see people claim this at is mostly level 20-60. I genuinely don't understand why so many people believe this because as far as I'm aware there should be no major stat difference between these jobs and they basically all have the same mitigations at these levels with some minor differences (until the aforementioned 56 and onwards). The only idea I can think of that might cause this notion is that the dungeons around the levels 30-40 get a rather large spike in the damage they deal to tanks, particularly tanks without level 50 gear, and DRK happens to start at level 30 in level 30 gear, which many players will not replace until reaching level 50 (leaving them undergeared during some particularly rough dungeons like Stone Vigil and Dzemael Darkhold). This doesn't really explain though why this myth persists into later level ranges (I've even heard people say Dark Knight is the "squishiest" tank in even high level content) nor why this same impression doesn't affect Warrior and Paladin as sprouts going through MSQ won't even have access to reliable ways of obtaining ilvl 130 gear until completing ARR and these critical dungeons take place before then.

Frankly I'm not sure how to test this (aside from just doing math?) but as a healer main I've felt no difference between tanks' survivability outside of what gear they have and how well they keep their mitigations up.

AbriDragon: I would like to add a common misconception with critical healing. I see a lot of people say that guaranteed critical hits on Warrior also guarantee critical healing from Bloodwhetting, but this only applies for skills that always crit/direct hit. Inner Release Fell Cleaves do not grant critical healing via Bloodwhetting, but the Primal Combo and Nascent Chaos skills do

uzephi: One of my favorite 'tricks' to do as a healer is time a shield when a big hit lands. Sometimes the game will apply adlo shield before the damage 'calculates' but the heal goes off after, preventing overheals. Really hard to time, but very satisfying when it happens.

Edit: there is another fun mechanic I found, using sustaining potions in palace when the floor 30/130 boss does the terrify, if timed right will negate the fear itself damage and terror effect. Again, have to play with server timings. The best way to gauge timing for this 'bug' is to see when the scrolling battle text shows the damage and terror, the application of 'rehabilitation' has to overwrote the scrolling of the damage. If it scrolls before, you did too early, and if after, too late.

MrsLittletall: I tried out the doomscrolling emote on my three WoLs. It looked the best on my catboy, he looked so appalled and disappointed at the same time. My Lalafell girl was cringing HARD and my Elezen boy was just staring open mouthed at the screen in disbelief ^^

Also, I love learning about stuff that has such a miniscule difference and still people get up in arms about them. It is nice to see the math laid out like this. Though I want to see the fight where you manage to have two LB2's ready. Is that even possible? Hm, maybe in the more current extremes/savages...

misawa8629: The shared tankbusters in this game feel like a troll by the devs. Kaliya has a shared tankbuster with just the tanks, but shiva's sword cleave can be shared by the whole party, leading players to maybe think Kaliya can be shared the same way.

jellytatsu875: LB3 looks cool so it's always the best option

Strider_Shinryu: The LB question is an interesting one. I do wonder if the math on LBs ever did change at some point because this is one I actually remember there being a substantial debate around in the past.

Raika63: Now I kind of want to try the a9 tank buster with more tanks and see if it's just looking for any nearby tank roles rather than having a cap at two.

Brahmsonite: I've been trying to analyze how Phantom Actions work (and don't work).

1) The self-healing from PhSamurai's Iainuki and Zeninage under the effect of Bloodfest is staggering.

2) Guaranteed CRIT and/or DH buffs to Weaponskills like MCH's Reassemble do not effect PhActions.

Have you noticed any good interactions or puzzling non-interactions between Jobs and PhJobs?

pkg946: Idea for a future video, if you're willing to talk about scholar auto-attack shenanigans even more: where is Ruin II a DPS gain over Ruin in the dungeons before

TheKarishi: See, having the 3 1 vs 2 2 come out so close leads me back into wondering about the interaction with "weaving" the LBs in question. Is it somehow easier to avoid wasting seconds on a pair of LB2s? Maybe! Is there a good way of figuring out how? Not really! Is the picayune disparity in those numbers ever going to matter? Probably not!

gamerdude295: When you got into the math of the Auto-Attack gains, the thought occurred to me "Wait... could Ruin 2 actually be better than Ruin 1 while you don't have Art of War?" and I was about to post the comment you actually mentioned that detail.

But technically (assuming you're auto attacking) that means Ruin 1 is actually just a dps loss from Lv38 rather than from Lv46.

The real challenge now is to tell a low level SCH they should use Ruin 2 when they unlock it, then swap to Art of War until 54, and not get attacked by other players (and not confuse the poor sprout).

scarlettwhyte4170: Noo my dreams of changing the A9N meta !!! xP

SirZero14: So this probably doesn't have to go into a video but I've been curious how exactly the game handles when 2 people playing job that has a raid buff puts up their raid buff at the same time. It's not an uncommon thing in roulettes and I really just want to know how best to play when I find myself in that situation.

jacobybarra907: Fact 4 in summary: Just LB3 XD

VGPorage: Would have been stupid if the larger investment LB3 was not a gain over just spamming LB1 or 2.
