TheFlyingChungus: When the tiger has shown its stripes
edeepee2: We already pay for this in FF14 via sub. Trial accounts cannot trade.
The only way to stop bots is either a monetary barrier or a ID verification barrier. I don’t think the latter would go down well.
Or do nothing and let hyperinflation eat your game alive within a year.
djkatsuo: If they would have said we need to take down the market board until we get control of the bot situation, it would make sense. But 10.00 is nothing to a botter. They will reverse course
Minaruok: Isn't the marketboard and p2p trade in the current pc game also pay to access for the same reason? free trial members have no access to either.
Not saying its perfect and its not the point, the game was touted as f2p
But, a one time 6 dollar fee doesn't seem as rough as the monthly sub to use a marketboard an trading
0Fyrebrand0: I don't think this is a big deal. If you had to keep paying 4-6 dollars every month to maintain access to the market board, that'd be bad. But if it's just a one-time purchase? You won't even miss that money. I kind of wish more free-to-play MMOs would do that kind of thing, to be honest. I don't necessarily want to pay a monthly sub for every online game, but if it's a one-time fee of a few bucks to unlock market boards or other things they normally can't let free accounts access due to bots, I can spring for that.
bluezhift: This is similar to how PSO2:NGS handles the bots. F2P accounts don't have access to the market board and players can't trade anything face to face. There are still plenty of bots of course, but I guess this helps keep them in check.
KadzietWolf: How is anyone even surprised? This is literally a China exclusive Chinese mobile game, so it's gonna have Chinese mobile game features lmao
mr.mystere4999: Free to play MMORPG has bot problems. Are any of us really surprised by this?
I fully expect the worldwide version to be no different.
I would also not be surprised to learn that Tencent is behind some of the botting, double-dipping in getting money from customers via RMT and via the Cash Shop to maintain access to suddenly paywalled basic features. But that's just me rambling, what do I know?
StrikerTVFang: Like others have been saying, I understand the WHY behind this... but I just feel like it's the nuke button used as a quick stop-gap. Hopefully they figure out a better way to combat bots without messing with the actual player experience. I know that's easier said than done.
Scerttle: Honestly, I don't hate this. Everything that's paywalled so far feels about the same as legacy 14.
jonnysnipe: lmao... whooooo woulda guessed... im passing on this so hard fuck this game
RElNHART1: This update while on paper sounds like it could help address bots, realistically it probably wont amount to much. Throwaway accounts will be made to advertise. while actual bots that can trade will be kept secret up until a buyer has already paid for services rendered, then the gil farmer could just send an account with trade access to trade the goods.
A person already participating in RMT to buy gil is unlikely to report the actual account that traded them.
overall This probably will just slow down the transaction process at best.
RasnerG: I mean we on the discord had seen and me personally those bots were really out of control really hard
Verpal: If this count as bad paywall, it really reflects on how much of a pay pig we FFXIV subscriber are.
Frostmilius: I have no plans to play the mobile version but I am all for this. 6$ is a very small entry fee to access the marketboards forever. The standard version we already play in prohibits trial player from using the marketboard period alongside pvp, ultimates, and other features I am sure I am forgetting. You could go down the rabbit hole of OSRS and bots literally be rampant and the economy be a joke or you can put a small gate up and at least stop some of them. Free to play doesnt mean you have the right to the entire game. Even if they required a small sub like a 5$ a month pass for the marketboard I'd still say its worth it. Its not like you need the MB for almost anything aside doing high end content and even then its purely convenience
CableFeed: You pay real money in your monthly subscription to get gil & you have to spend real money in order to use the market board i knew this was gonna be terrible.
NaviaYuzuha: this game is dead
JustJohn816: Games dead
Geekezf: I don't really see the point of buying gils in FFXIV.
I'm earning 2-3 M a week with submarine repair kits. It's a lvl 50 craft. And require a lvl 50 gatherer for the component. That your retainer can bring you every 45 minutes.
Mirinkaiser: This is why we can't have nice things.
queuebaby: Unpopular opinon: This is fine. We pay $15 subscription fee in retail, yes there are bots in retail but it could've been way worse if it is F2P. Majority of F2P mobile games are killed by either botting or hacking, yes $15 might be easy make for some botters/hackers but that is still a way to curb the bot population. Whatever bot population surpasses the money barrier has to be handled personally by the developers.
Now, the ff14 mobile players has to keep an eye on this so that the developers won't increase the money over time or if they really need to, $15 is the limit coz if it will go beyond that just play retail at that point.
rafaelsalazar1767: Lets be honest, these bot players are everywhere, ffxiv retail, wow, regardless of sub or not, as long as people use rmt, its not going away.
MrJuancho2706: I'll still be playing lol, that was a measure to deal with bots (is a f2p game lol) and I'm still having more fun here than DT haha
Angelic-clips: Bro square enix has the best games i ever played
But to be completely honest and no offense whatever
FUCK THIS COMPANY SIDEWAYS AND IN EVERY HOLE POSSIBLE EVEN THE BELLY BUTTON
I had the worse experience with them in ffxiv
Excuse the rudeness tho
love the content
holo_val: Eventually players will pay so many one-time payments for features they will realize it would have been cheaper in the long run to just have a subscription. But that's the whole point of F2P monetization afterall.
Copain88: I don’t really think a one time purchase of $10 is that bad of a requirement.
raventhorX: So basically they made it a sub game anyway.
