youiri65: I was surprised that we didn't get Phantom Spellblade, given that we have a lore drop about Karnak being the seat of where Spellswords were.
Also we can kinda link the Phantom jobs to the countries that are in the Southern Horn and we can speculate how the 5th era lifestyle is.
from the "silver coin jobs", we can assume that those are what are common between all 4 city states, and the "gold coin jobs" are the "rare" or "unusual" to the city states.
the Silver coin jobs probably shows us that the city states all have a decent understanding of arcane artillery, chemistry, and there were enough people with knowledge and how-to to invoke Time Magic without extreme bodily backlash. (also that might be the underlying reason why the Calamity of Water was induced due to the massive aether costs, compounded by the blatant use of White and Black magic.)
the Gold coin jobs are both "rare" and "unusual" due to Thieves being a "criminal job" and Iaijutsu and Geomancy being foreign techniques.
Oracles being found in the Amdapori ruins makes me want to speculate that Oracles are White Mages, or should I say White Archmages/Wizards, with magics so potent they can basically kamikaze an area to a very potent degree or inflict instantaneous death on an enemy, protective magics so powerful to the point that they can render someone literally impervious to harm, while keeping their White Mage roots of healing and recuperating.
Berserker being found in Mhachi ruins makes me think that the Mhachi developed magic that can be used by infantry to essentially turn them into mindless killing machines to act as shock troops while they can rain hellfire and lightning from afar with reckless abandon as their melee combatants are "autopiloted" to target everything that moves in front of them regardless of affiliation. Makes you wonder how sick and twisted the Mhachi are and how hellbent they are to conquer everyone.
Ranger being found somewhere in the middle of nowhere between 2 city states, namely Karnak and Nym seems logical since the Ranger pulls practices from those 2 nations. Summoning creatures and erecting arcane barriers borrows some aspect of Arcanima and the Scholars of Nym, and Imbuing a weapon or creature with magic to induce effects or enhance it's effectiveness seems very apropos for the city known for it's weapon enchanting.
Zoeila: Oracle time mage = astrologian
Switch-2501: My Mhach DnD x14 campaign thanks you once more!
fluffdafire157: The fact some of these phantom jobs will never be real jobs gives me a somber feeling
MugenAeternum: So basically every job we'll never get...
andymcd83: The Paladin is known as ナイト (knight) in Japanese.
D3th10rd: Phantom Jobs feel like a testing ground for potentially allowing the wielding of two soul crystals at once or being able to take skills/spells from one class and put them on another. Like Dark Knight, after having enough levels in Paladin, being able to use Fight or Flight, or Red Mages learning a powerful destructive spell from BLM and a strong supportive spell from WHM as they push the balance to its limits. Alternatively, phantom jobs are just a gimmick that will never see the light of day again.
JackWolf1: From the sound of things, Freelancer is sorta treated like Blue Mage in that it doesn’t follow the same rules.
I may be imagining things, but freelancer seems to gain power when other jobs are mastered, kinda like how in Tactics the Onion Knight also got stronger the more you branched out into other jobs
Y.Moroboshi: To add to your point on Knight, it's also the same job as what we call Paladin in the EN. In JP, both versions of the job are called Knight (ナイト).
drbiohazmat: This makes me wonder how many jobs are hidden or lost to the whole world of XIV... What if there was a powerful mage job only found in Tural that was lost centuries ago, or a unique job with a strange weapon unlike any others that has a stone lost somewhere in Garlemald
andrewgray573: Synodic Scribe, one thing troubles me: Aether.
While the Occult Crescent has a unique aetherial density to it, the baseline aetherial density across Hydaelyn increased by 1/14th in the wake of the Calamity of Water. Primal summoning through the Sixth Astral and Umbral Eras eroded that, as well as the thinning induced by the attempted Seventh rejoining that saw Hydaelyn brought into aetherial synchronicity with the shard-world known as The First. While that synchronicity was ultimately undone, and balance is being restored across Hydaelyn, it raises the deeper question.
Given that modern aetherial density is somewhat above what it was in the Fifth Astral Era, would it not be fairer to say that the imperfect knowledge of Soul Shards may be a larger factor to why Phantom Job arts are less usable outside of the Occult Crescent? While much is explainable by the modern world not being as aether-rich as this island/archipelago, there are more energies in the modern world overall. As a result, as Archon Y'shtola herself has cautioned in many lectures to young scholars in the halls of Sharlayan, perhaps the foolish decisions of mortals has done more to stymie progress, even than the machinations of the Ascians or their Calamities.
Kyzoren: Fought the Berserker yesterday, and just now I realized where he's in the Mhach pyramid! Which means he's probably been ripping & tearing since the Flood!
greillion2388: I'm looking forward to what phantom jobs might show up in the north horn. I hope they bring in mime. And since we have cannoneer, it is possible that necromancer makes an appearance too.
swapertxking: Phantom Geomancer and Samurai raised more than just "hey why are these here" questions, it raised why Gunbreaker, Summoner and Pictomancy are not present on the occult crescent. Could suppose that Gunbreaker wasnt dealing with the war of the magi, but then why were Geo and Sam there? With the widespreadedness of old Allag throughout the whole of the third astral era, how are we only /now/ re-finding those job crystals? And if i remember what Krile and the Moogle said independently, Picto was developed during the 5th astral era, was it too late into the era for soul shards to have been made? I hope we get more answers with the northern horn
emmacatte: Chemist my beloved....
edatihtiaz8018: Is it possible that the job shards were created to advance the war of the magi? Tbh it sorta seemed off to me that technically the jobs were there just not the job stone. Giving somebody a shard would grant them some combat capability. It is also worth bringing up the magi of that era used the aether from the land to fuel said jobs. Is it possible that the world changing during the calamity of that era also changed how jobs worked in general due to the rejoining?
WarGiver: Karnak was implied to come from the East, likely they are the origin of Samurai and Geomancer.
One thing that bothers me about occult Crescent is that Archive seems very suspicious. He claims to know nothing about the war of the magi, but he is a Tonbery, the war should be at its climax by the time he got transformed. I think either he isn't a Tonbery as we know them and/or from Nym (possibly he is as much a familiar as the fairy he seems to have a grudge against), has massive holes in his knowledge (more so then he claims), he was the key to the origin to the source of the Green Death, or he is lying cannot be trusted.
patrickschaab3217: I’m personally hoping for Phantom Summoner. First off, ff5 has some unique summons. But for the lore, Phantom Summoner would mean that some aspects of Summoners survived Allag’s Purge and the fourth Umbral Calamity. How differently did they approach summoning, and what happened to the skills that it was “lost” again until rediscovered in the modern day?
panda6907: Sorry, Scribe. You're at 69 likes, and I won't disturb that balance.
Edit:
MMOPC78: Phantom Jobs aren't lore accurate?!? Um.... Hello.... Then ending of SB!! The Warriors of Darkness using different abilities from their jobs that aren't on the Source. Also, if one broadens their view to two Scions in particular: their jobs have other "powers" from other jobs. Me personally:I think this might be a preview for the future of what existing jobs may evolve to.
Sunila_DragonladyCH: Yay! I can't wait for your general lore video on the Occult Crescent. I can't play that sort of content as I already have too much to do in the main game, but I need to know the lore.
GoldenXShark22: phantom jobs are such a treasure trove of lore I love them so much
arthurreitz9540: We can notice that the Berserker lose control of their inner beast
Desert_Bloom: Since these phantom jobs are from final fantasy five, we might see blue mage in the future with north horn. Which means that, potentially, the whalaqee tribe in xak tural are the least changed practitioners of fifth astral era magic due to their isolation from the twelve city states and their wars.
mas8705: I think the thing I'm curious about for the Phantom Jobs will be if this is either a hint at future jobs we will see or if this will be as close as we will be getting these in a playable form.
Mind you, as fun as it would be to think that we would see a 4th ranged class in the form of a cannoneer, I doubt S-E would be that crazy. Meanwhile fair to assume that classes like Knight, Ranger, Thief, Freelancer and even Berserker seems redundant to consider while classes of the same name (Monk, Samurai and Bard) don't need to be said. Finally, I wanted to consider Oracle as a possible choice but my lack of knowledge on the class from the gba version does leave me limited (and how from your description, Oracle could very well be the precursor to Astrologian so it would make sense to let it be like cannoner and be an exclusive gba class that likely may not have a need to return in the modern age)
But then we have others left. All of which... I mean that do all sound like great support classes to see in the future.
-Geomancer is the clear front runner as we already have Geomancers in FF14 already and how it would be easy to give them bells as their weapons. As for if we will see it in the future or not remains to be seen, but I feel like some people do have geomancers in their top wishlist of new classes
-Time Mage was one I think alot of people have tossed out as a suggestion of one who could possibly improve speeds of allies while causing issues for enemies (but I think I saw some pitch this as more of a limited class, but could still be a fun option).
-Chemist... I mean, Chemist is kind of straight forward to consider. We can point towards Rikku from FFX as to how that could work and how it could be fun if during fights, you have chemist be mixing concoctions together to toss them at enemies to have different effects. In a sense, it would almost feel like Pictomancer to some degree (prepping potions to toss that could damage the enemy or heal allies) but it would be a fun new way to have healing. I know there would still that clash between Chemist and Alchemist, but I still like to think the possibility is still there if we have a difference between the two.
So if I have to put them in order in what I think would be probable, I probably would say this would be my top 3 choices:
1) Geomancer
2) Chemist
3) Time Mage
A big "What if" slapped on the end of that, of course. I think they said they will be adding more jobs later and I know alot of people still want to see Mystic Knight in a playable class form too (while beastmaster is seemingly around the corner or later this year). And Necromancer...
...
Actually I think Necromancer has been in talks too for some time, but I'll wait to see if they add it to the phantom jobs before exploring that further.
