tsunderemerc1138: The hardest part of starting XIV is starting XIV because yeah, even if you're a freak like me and enjoy slow-paced worldbuilding, it's still bloated even by a lore nerd's standards (and it used to be even MORE bloated, basically Yoshi P's special 7-layer fetch quests). And running any ARR content means most jobs feel kind of lame when they have like 4 buttons to use. You only appreciate some unique things ARR does when you get further into the game and realize every dungeon is just a hallway.

Hyphu: ff14 plays more like a mainline final fantasy game first. The mmo stuff comes after but you still get your multiplayer experience through dungeons in the story. Until you finish the story to open up the raiding part of that segment then you can enjoy the MMO part. It's not your average mmo.

And it will have been the latter for 5 years by the time the Evolved Jobs come in 8.0, when we get yet ANOTHER coin toss

Like seriously can you not for one moment live vicariously through your character at all? Is it so hard for you to imagine a separate character having the journey in front of you and empathising with them?

scw55: Fortunately, as part of the next expansion (out Jan 2027), you should have your full rotation by 50 (and beyond I suppose skills mutate to higher ranks or whatever). So the early game combat should feel better at then.

ihaveanxiety8093: bro the first time i downloaded ffxiv i gave up cuz it just wouldn't download. i tried again the following year where i succeeded using a third party app but unluckily the servers were getting attacked or whatever which i didn't know was a thing and gave up again. Finally gave it a last chance in 2025, haven't stopped playing ever since :p
