FFXIV 7.3 Live Letters Game Changing Direction

Taiylim: This has to be satire or something so much Hopium/Copium. Nothing is changing in such a drastic way. OC is being FIXED due to bad design. Deep Dungeon is getting QoL features that have been asked for ages with a new twist for how the Floors 99 and 100 work. Deep Dungeon has ALWAYS had "Check Points", they just added more. Challenge Log ALWAYS existed for content; it isn't groundbreaking to add Deep Dungeon. Deep Dungeon was ALWAYS used for Leveling, it isn't groundbreaking to allow 1-100 vs 90-100 only. The ONLY new FEATURE was the Boss Fight for Floor 99 with variable difficulty tokens and the way it functions. Everything else was expected, bar Enemy Cast bar and Draw Distance QoL.

Applying this "Variable Difficulty" to dungeons can only go so far. They are trying to Mimic M in WoW. There was NO GUARENTEE they will apply this feature to future content; this may be one and done never to be seen again.

There is no FanFest. There is no RoadMap. There were no Glamour, Space/Inventory, or Housing issues being addressed. They are behind on their planned content. There is no mention of BluMage or BeastMaster updates. DawnTrail will have LESS post release content than EW and equal or less quality. They are dumping to many resources into PvP while the entire BU is failing and underperforming.

griggins: I wouldn't say it's mindblowing, but these are definitely steps in a better direction. Shouldnt have to wait another 2 months for the deep dungeon though.

Corrderio: Eh I'll believe it when I see it. While I'm glad they're doing a bit more with Deep Dungeons, it still doesn't change the rest of the content being stagnant. That and if there isn't any incentive besides mounts I expect the Deep Dungeon to only be popular for a month or 2 before nobody does it like PotD/HoH/EO

coryaustin7379: I get that they can't just move FT to outside of the instance and just have it be a queue but JUST HAVE IT BE A QUEUE. It's just funny seeing them scramble to make all these changes to something when all it would've taken is one person on the team to say "Maybe this should just be a queue", it's like the old joke of the space pen and pencil.

Ephremjlm1: Yeah I mean im glad they are making these adjustments but heres my issue. I don't think they are going to actually have the balls to make rewards better for normal content with harder difficulty. And like I mean tangible rewards. armor, weapons, crafting items, things that make it feel better to tackle the harder content as you go along. Until they actually do that and its not a one off minion or mount or some reused glam, then it will communicate that they aren't really willing to break their formula, more that they are trying their damndest to keep it safe while stretching the line as much as they can.

VashimuXIV: I’m so super hyped for 7.3 now. Sure, I have to wait till .35 for our new deep dungeon, which is where I’m hyped most for, but just all of 7.3 looks so promising and worthwhile. The new updates for Occult Crescent looks great, I hope the new trial is fun, and I can’t wait to see more from Sphene. It’s gonna be a great time. Sereiously I love what they’re doing with the Pilgrim’s Traverse. I pray these new editions are also added to older deep dungeons. They said it would likely occur, but is not a central priority. What a great live letter.

rodimus580: Yes, everything has changed . Completely different game.

OmegaEnvych: For PVP arena it’s nice to see non-gimmick straightforward CC arena where you can focus on actual fight 100% of a time - at this point we have 5 maps and only Palaistra is like that, and having 2 different straightforward maps out of 6 both with different designs and lanes is good design decision.

I have one point about Phoenix Down - I really hope that it means that we might in a future see more focus on consumables- which would be a good thing. We have way too much focus on uncleansable status effects and “do mechanic right or suffer”, which kinda defeats purpose of items. I feel we should have good balance of consumables and magic cleanses in the game.

I do hope that Deep Dungeon will be step in right direction design-wise and that promises will be met with proper execution - and even more that later similar structure could be added to dungeons as an option. Maybe even to older dungeons retroactively. Maybe not all of them but at least level 70 and up. Imagine having around 50 places with variable difficulty up to Ultimate-level and titles for those who would do it.

That’s ofc a dream, like “shrink current ability set that current level 50 would be at 30, 70 at 50, and 100 at 70 and grow from there, maybe with subclass options (melee could choose tank, support or dps spec, casters - healer, support or dps spec - support means focus on buffs, party mitigations etc.)

Still, it’s a way of developing the game and giving players options without raising level past 100

At least this live letter got us hear YoshiP talking about options and what could be done for players. And that’s good - we should keep conversation going - that means going to official forums, providing suggestions and constructive criticism where needed. Not in “GMAE BAD DELETE WUKLMAO” but real proper criticism- like “M8S boss during add phase obstructs visibility too much, creating scenario where healer can very easily die on accident. Would be good either reduce shield effect intensity or move boss to improve visibility”

The more people are talking in constructive feedback, the higher chance that issues will be resolved!

Whining, offensive behavior and constant complaints on youtube comments or in private discord servers will fall on deaf ears.

Same with asking XIV to outright become WOW - we don’t need WOW 2 - can’t say for all, but I play FFXIV because it’s FFXIV, not because it’s WOW.

I am more or less positive on what we are getting this expansion- we get new gameplay modes, possibly new experiments with gameplay mechanics and great fights. 7.4 we will have new Variant/Criterion dungeon - I am all for them, I hope they will figure proper gearing balance for it and it will be integrated into gearing system, maybe with ideas similar to quantum difficulty as it promised. And then 7.5 likely will give us new limited job and hopefully Blue Mage update.

burtwonk: Yeah, the new deep dungeon shows the right mindset. I really want to see them perfect this and variants with better progression mechanics.
