ZessaSnake: I personally really like the idea of sub jobs. would be a nice shake up from the current job "feeling"
Btw. I enjoy those "yap" videos of yours, so would be nice to see more of them!
Mad-Slick: Just give me a real Ranger job. I want to use a bow without all the Bard stuff.
Reikis645: Long as they make the possibility of warrior being dps, I'm happy.
socram3254: I think phantom jobs are a good blueprint for a specialization system, like every job having 2 specs with 3-4 new abilities or passives each, it would shake things up a bit while still maintaining the job system in control
iknothatukno: I don't think they'd wanna do this.
They've already complained about how taxing it is to make 2 new classes and add like 3 new skills to every class every expansion.
Unless they double the expac cycle, I don't think they'd wanna triple the workload.
I'm glad you mentioned cross classing, I hope that never returns.
And giving the classes archetypes might just make things more rigid than before.
Instead of "no much in my raid" it becomes "voice of power spec brd only for my raid"
genjuro8966: i dont think they'll give us sub jobs or that OC is a testing ground, not that its a bad idea but i dont think they'll necessarily shake up current combat that much for fear of balancing issues in the future. but i DO think they'll give every job new/updated job gauges, and potentially will prune more buttons off our hotbars to make room for the ones we'll get in 8.0. Anymore than that would be a huge surprise, but a welcome one.
davidgust68: After playing PLD and time mage everything else just feels wrong. I'd love it if I could bring it outside of OC.
wackantheduck6883: Nothing ever happens
UDSlusher: I think both you and the playerbase in general would benefit from caring less about balance, we need the kind of shakeup where the balance just will be bad at first. Unfortunately I don't think the dev team is brave enough based on the dawntrail job design or even oc job design.
xsteelersx6: Would love a dps warrior or a real archer/ranger adps p.range.
I think this is a good idea because it sounds fun.
I also don't want to feel dumb getting my hopes up because this is CBU3 we're talking about.
ventus9702: Would be great, but ff dev team are all lazy to try something new
ulibarriL: OC putting ideas and false hopes in the minds of the playerbase was as predictable as saying it will snow in the winter. The same exact thing happened with Bozja's lost action system.
I hate to disappoint, but I have to be real here. This dev team spent an enormous of time, took a schite ton of criticism (and still do), and burned up a lot of resources to balance this game so that all jobs are viable around the high level raids, which is where you need to go if you want to truly play the game. You are absolutely off your rocker if you think they are going to rock that boat. It's not happening.
Try to be happy with THIS content. Here they can experiment and do really fun things because the raiding community doesn't give a eff about it.
Be ready for more of the same in 8.0.
mohamedosman653: I am honestly fine with not having any new jobs if they make something like this while also removing raid buffs and 2 minute meta
Sivren51: Could be a way to test new job actions.
Tysonius_TWG: I'd love to see a Specialization system, and think the Phantom Jobs in OC are a great first step towards implementation.
Like, give all our main classes 2, maybe 3 Specs they can select, with slightly varied stats and a handful of unique abilities to each, while keeping a Core package of skills/traits of the class regardless of spec, so they still "feel" like x class, but gives variability. nod
NotTheWheel: In FF11 they started allowing you to mix and match jobs. A sub job system wouldn't be a bad idea. I think in occult crescent part 2 we can stack two phantom jobs at once? but I'm not sure.
andreluizxd2873: Yeah, I think OC is a Huge experiment to bring dual job next exp and the the leveling will be on the secondary job like 100/10.
truonggiangngo6512: Deadly blow has such a cool looking animation which fits WAR as well; no way they’re not gonna reuse it for future abilities
Mustar1989: Sub classes would be nice but im not sure how that would work since we have so much button bloat at the moment.
uninvitedguest8723: Just imagining Ninja getting a spec thats full melee instead of the caster its been turned into would be sick
SigmaTheWhiteFlame: Character customization is a false promise in MMOs. What's the point of customizing your character when raiding will require you to play a premade build?
301SO: If I can finally play dps Gunbreaker then yay. The downside of this is all the jobs moving to dps will make tank roles less filled than they already are.
radschatuba: cool idea, i wonder wich way SE is going with plan to 8.0
FenryrGrey: I just hope they do something. The job system and roles are in a crisis. Green dps is a silly notion, tanking is just running to the wall, mitigation, aoe dps. But if the past is any indication for the future: not enough will be done.
VashimuXIV: Time to yap in turn! Sorry I just love talking.
Having now tried out some of the phantom jobs and reaching knowledge level 20 in the Occult Crescent, I’m all for this being the future of job design like how they had in XI, at least in spirit. It has sucked me right in and I am happily spending several hours farming in the zone thanks to the system. I know this is basically no different than arguing for having cross class skills again in theory, but each of the phantom jobs at least has something distinct from one another, and large scale raids like Forked-Tower is where they can really flex those muscles for encounter design around balanced compositions and unique skills.
Now do I think that’s actually what they’re going to do? Hell no. At least not immediately. Because anything that would be this sweeping in terms of changes would be almost reinventing the wheel in a sense, even if specializations only really worked in post 7.0 content. And it’s less that I think the developers lack the ability to do so, but I just think the player base wouldn’t be able to really handle it at this moment in time. And I can only imagine the sheer volume of feedback that would have to go into making each specialization feel satisfying and worth picking for each job. But there’s something here post level 100 and with the idea of jobs specializing like the phantom jobs in Occult Crescent. I really can’t add more than what you said Azu, because I agree with plenty of your ideas of tying older jobs to current job design. I’m no game designer, so I am ready to accept than none of this will happen outside of Occult Crescent, but I feel it in my bones that there is so much untapped potential here that both the devs and players can find common ground on going into future expansions. I know XIV has its reputation of playing it safe to its detriment, so anything rocking the boat risks losing people to seemingly needless complexities, but I think it’s worth the risk all the same. So yeah, two thumbs up from me as this game’s future.
theawkwardmermew: For years I’ve been saying I wish Bard had split pathing like Scholar and Summoner. Where you have bard being more song magic (like it is) and Ranger which is more physical range damage type. So I could see this idea working well with your idea of splitting up classes
