Can Evercold Fix Relic Weapons in FFXIV?

Gatsby3737: The final step of the DT relic is so good I hope they do that for the final step of every relic going forward. It was a fun little grand tour of the main content of the expansion.

AzurePursuer: Relic Weapons should in every state be the best non-savage weapon you can get imo.

Mecharobobot: Did everyone forget you can do every step of the shadowbringers relic outside bozja as well? As someone who currently is finishing off a bozja relic I think people have put on some real nostalgia glasses about this relic.

Mexican_Sunbro: This comment section highlights why they'll never get Relics "right".

scullzomben: I want to push back on the bit about "most players have already geared their job". The best weapon people who don't do savage can get right now is ilvl 780. The tome upgrade still requires the drop from savage and cant be obtained from hunts/alliance raid yet. And we already know that the number of people doing savage is absolutely not "most players".

huesofparker: Everything you said is great and all but the bigger issue is community. Players don’t really engage with one another in the ways your talking about with the relic and this so called journey. All it is and ever will be is a check list of things to do. The real challenge is figuring out a way for players to engage better with one another and actually work together.

YungGokuOver: Puh-lease bring back relic armor. We literally have one of them that glows. There are not enough glowing armor sets in the game and it's what first made me wanna do Eureka.

And also...give a super mega dope mount for the big ending challenge. The Demi Ozma mount is still top 3 coolest mounts in the game! Not every mount has to be that level, but pretty close to that would create some super duper incentive.

I remember being a sprout and seeing that mount and just being wowed and asking "What do I gotta do to get me one of DEEZ!"

Mrlaged: I Will Die on this hill. The Eureka Weapon progression system was perfect. But I hope that Ec's Relic will be more World base Tying into the Revamp of the world zones Perhaps something you can start as soon as you finish the msq.

darktemplar45: What i think they should do is let us double dip the grind with existing grinds.

I was extremely disappointed to hear that OC couldn't be used as a leveling alternative. As I think that is what kept bozja population for so long. Everyone has a job they want to level and it proved to remain valid up through EW even.

Similarly if theres gonna be a fate grind... put it early on since a lot of ppl will be grinding shared fates. So ull feel like ur making progress on two grinds at once. Instead of making players that have already spent 3 patches maxing each zone hate Fates even more than they already do.

Even if theres no field ops in EC they could let us start it at lvl 100 (after the first job unlocks it at lvl 110) and give us like 10% combat exp in EC zones and instances Then 15% in 8.3 and 20% in 8.5 or something. We've got pver 20 jobs so it'd be nice to get a little extra oomf when we're leveling. Or like with cosmic give it a bonus that stacks with how many relics uve completed.

Also im not a huge fan on the "victory lap" steps. It just feels like a massive checklist for content ive already gone through and forgotten about. Sure there's merit in re living the good stuff. But thats also a LOT of boring and awful content too. (Mostly level cap dungeons)

And I get it, its meant to help fill roulette and help players late to the game get through content. But with the DC duty finder coming soon. I feel like this is less and less od a problem because every regions duty finder player pool is about to double or even triple. And i dont think it gets talked aboht enough that cross DC duty/party finder is going to fundamentally change how people approach content as a whole, both casual and hard core.

johnswanson1977: As someone with a job, I appreciate a simple relic like endwalker

Strider_Shinryu: Honestly I think the DT relic was actually pretty well done. The only real issue is that they didn't let you continue working on your relics inside the Occult Crescent after you finished the one time step. The tomestone grind is perfectly fine as an option but you should also be able to keep getting demi-atma, paste, dispellers, etc. after you've done that step and then be able to trade your extras in directly for the Arcanite (even if the acquistion rate is maybe even a tad slower than doing it with tomestones). Just have OC be an option for every single step.

I will say that there's just a lot of rose tinted glasses for the older relics, and also that there's a lack of recognition that the game itself has changed in terms of how many jobs most people play. We can't have every single weapon be a massive, painful grind anymore because no one just plays 1 or 2 jobs. Almost everyone at the least plays one job per role or maybe every job within a single role (and many play way more than that). Does anyone really, truly want to do the full Book grind or a full Light grind for 20 different jobs?

tatersalad76: Weird idea, but I really want the relic weapon to build off of the level cap weapon. As in the weapon we get at the end of the X.0 story right before the last trial and dungeon or two that we immediately get rid of for a tome weapon, and every step feels like the job weapon evolving

CadekFenrir: honestly, I feel like the talk of world bosses and the like makes me think they're going to bring field op style encounters into the main evercold maps

richardmarin2538: While I can see the vision, I think Relic Weapons are the kind of thing players like in principle but never in execution. Back during EW I was constantly hearing players say they hated having to do Bozja during ShB for their relic and praising EW for being non intrusive and giving them a sink for their tomes. Now during DT apparently Bozja was the fieldop that did it right and we hate tome sinks. Players in my experience hate the process when it's not involved and they also hate the process when it is. They're upset when a step can only be advanced through the fieldop and they're also upset when it can be advanced outside of it.

avrax3497: Just in time for my lunch break!

shawnscouten5184: Dawntrail relics are the best ones so far imo.

Endwalker’s relic was boring, and gave no sense of accomplishment.

Relics before endwalker overstayed their welcome so much, because no matter how fun they were, having to do it 10 times was not fun.

Hopefully the Evercold relic follows a vaguely similar structure, ideally with more creative steps.

mfbuxton: The "no brainer levelling roulette step" that was encouraged by streamers like Mr Happy was so stupid. I got all my paste naturally by doing savage reclears, AMT and other content. I never had to do any boring content or go out of my way whatsoever.

DrForester: I loved the DT relic line. Had a long and a bit tedious grind with a wonderful final step of revisiting all the DT content.

Then an easy path to get more relics after the grind. It's a great mix.

TsuchiGamer06: I've done every relic and I think they all have their pros and cons

DT overall was better than EW but I don't completely dislike the idea of tomes for weapons. However, I'd also like options

Ex 1: for the Atma step, turning in excess crystals for the arcanite or tomes would help

Ex 2: buying future arcanite with bicolor gemstones

MooMooStrats: Relic steps NEED to stop only consisting of mindless grinds. I do love a good grind but I want them to actually be exciting. I don't see why they can't include a unique challenge per Job per Relic that you could complete either as a one off or as a means of grinding the material at a substantially better rate than the tomestone grind. Something like this would incentivize actually knowing your job and engaging the player rather than just being a very slow pity system. Go ask a tank to stand against some mob and kite it around and rotate mit. Go ask Healers to keep an NPC alive and manage their damage on a target for a relic step. Go ask DPS to do some crazy mini boss solo that's hoarding Gerolt's next material for your weapon. These are things people would absolutely love doing.

syaojyn: World tour step is absolutely awful and lazy, dont feel i can agree with you less on that

lakelahodny7168: A simpler solution I wish they did was allowing players to buy the “tome item” in OC with the currency. It would have incentivized players to engage with OC, it would make it a smidge faster in OC, and it’d give more choices for how to progress the relic.

chuckstronggtx6863: I loved that cosmic exploration allowed us to level up our jobs, that was OC biggest failure for me personally.

DominusImpulse98: I think DT's relic quests have been pretty good, but asking CS3 to give us relic armor when all they do is treat relic weapons like catch-up gear until the last major patch cycle is hilarious.

When we get item level synced across all max level jobs in EC, you'd only be running alternate armor for secondary stats. I know regular players either don't have enough time to actually care about this aspect of gearing, or don't find it important enough. So... I can't imagine the incentive they're willing to create within base FFXIV for such armor to make the change to item level sync not matter.

How about making combat materia melding more interesting and less stale, first.

bigpunk157: Honestly, relic weapons as a concept needs to die and be replaced by a specific kind of relic gear, like a relic necklace, set pieces, or other horizontal progression options. Having a "here is your bis piece but it's only ever catch up gear" thing is boring when we could have more build variety that potentially is only BIS in some kinds of content.

noelleon8595: as my first "real" relic weapon (endwalker doesnt really count since its way too easy) i liked the grind especially since it involved a gamemode that not everyone would willingly spend time in if it wasnt but also didnt require it... Im just sad that the warrior weapon is a hammer

MooMooStrats: While I agree that the relic had A Lot of problems, I do also think a lot of people complained about the acquisition rate of things like Atma and Paste, and subsequently grinded them as hard as possible to get them out of the way, instead of letting them incidentally accrue while playing on the Crescent. The Relic wasn't even close to BIS when those steps were current so there was 0 rush to get it done other than people having to clear things off a check list obsessively.
