Shopping CartLimelol: All of these stalking plugins and not one can find Xeem's hair.
Meilymo: And it got shutdown very quickly.
boltgunner: can 14 players stop being weird for 5 minutes lol
ChimneyChungus: It's already shut down lol
Hippy_King: I can almost guarantee this dev created this plugin out of spite to stalk people he's fallen off with. The apology/message is obviously just a publicity stunt, they were just scared that their real identity has been exposed to the community so they'll create a new alias and continue to publish this project.
oryxx4490: homie doesnt realize wow players and 14 players are the same gremlin
Ravemaster620: The FFXIV community is the perfect example of people being terminally online and treating online interactions as a threat to their very existence. This isn't the only community that does it but I play the game a lot, so I'm exposed to it the most out of the rest. That isn't to say that this mod should exist, it really shouldn't need to be a thing, but getting doxxed as backlash is too far imo, but honestly expected
Kaladin07: You must have installed it on your head if it deletes everything
LimitBreakMort: WoW player for 20 years and XIV player for 3 years, WoW players will just slur at you and move on with their life. XIV players have unhinged mentally ill ways to express their anger at something. XIV's 'community' is definitely worse.
EllaPeridotVT: Can confirm, I had played XIV on and off since 1.0, and have had two stalkers; I've also seen ten years of callout posts, cancellations, and accusations.
(Honestly the worst things that I've experienced in WoW were 1.) I couldn't roll on a piece of gear in 2005, and 2.) being kicked out of a PUG dungeon run after a very brief disconnect during Battle for Azeroth.)
Edit to add: also you are the cutest FFXIV player, m'lord.
FeralKobold: This is where I'd usually do a little shit talking and GCBTW, but to be real we have the same problems in WoW. We've had well known stalking websites in WoW for ages and nothing gets done about them. I guess at least square shuts these things down
Khayalex: I KNEW IT!! I have been targeted for a WHILE. Hearing this makes me feel vindicated. I thought it was just a Discord, but to see that it was an actual app or have been actual apps more than one is wild work.
Hippy_King: We cannot escape data collection just like in real life with corporate capitalism slop agenda
colex201: Every user caught using this app deserves to receive a permanent ban
æüqeruł: Just saying, too many people in the FFXIV community are naive enough to protect criminals. Some of them are too unhinged that can create the darkest final fantasy.
SpearChaku: Ff14 community is something else...
Devolant1990: This is literally just a problem with FF. Don’t know why Xeems always thinks WoW players do these things, they’re more likely to filter you from content than stalk you. No one has time for that shit, we actually have a consistent feed of content to treadmill.
trodune: so it was fflogs for the limsa bench
tensu178: As someone who was heavy into WoW and FF14, along with other MMO's. The main reason this is a big issue in FF14 is due to a couple of factors.
1) Due to the game being a 1-character game, it's a lot easier to track someone (This is on the lesser end, but still a reason)
2) The game is far more social. In games like WoW, there are no social gatherings like there are in FF14, so outside of your guild, odds are your interactions will be very limited with anyone else. So if it does happen, it tends to be outside the game in Discord, etc.
3) Due to the friendly social nature, reputation, and almost toxic positive nature, the community has most new players come in not knowing this sort of stuff goes on, so they tend to be a bit more trusting, where in wow everyone talks about how toxic the community is and odds are as a new player your gonna get called some random slur or told to off yourself as a new player pretty much shutting those doors from the start.
4)The overly positive social nature of the game, I think, tends to cause people who seek that kind of attention to the game to know the community tends to be overly nice and will put up with them being psycho because they dont wanna hurt someone's feelings or be inconsiderate of any issues they might have.
this is what happened to a friend of mine who wanted to play ff14, I pre warned them about people being overly nice and to be careful they thought I was overexagerating joined a LS met someone they claimed was just being nice and friendly helping them out then I found out like a month later that person was sending them threatening messages in game and on discord the moment they were ignored threatening to off themselves and do other things if my friend didnt respond to them right away pretty much making my friend quit the game and never wanna go back.
DrAlberts: Stalkmaster69 thought he was safe to stalk and harass behind his screen but he forgot that real life exists and he also has an address
Karma
Mimiga333: not saying its better or worse but its 2 different types of mental derangement, WoW is more like 4/8chan or old Reddit levels of derangement while XIV is more Bluesky/Pre Elon Twitter or new Reddit and honestly I have found more joy playing these games when i stopped trying to interact with people
WickedOniNagi: Wow toxicity is Old gamer toxicity:Ff14 toxicity is twitter toxicity because if you hurt their fragile feelings you're public enemy number one.
CombativeMedic: I thought I was subbed to you and thought it was strange I didn't see you around. I think YouTube may have unsubscribed me... Anyway, thanks for covering topics like this.
akridx5712: Mamma Mia! Here we go again
KiefKevin: Sadly their take is very normal in the data engineering field. The idea is we can take someone's data, all their public social media posts and etc, and determine who they are.
Sometimes it's just for marketing. In other cases people, especially extremely political types, argue it can be used as a form of pre-empteive moderation. The use case for this plugin was for people to curate their ff14 social network and to find targets for 'political' struggle sessions, I can't see it any other way.
Depending on how they programmed the plugin the could have it give your account a label, "evil chud" for example, if you ever said Trump 2024 ingame and their plugin new about it.
It's really just a means of social control, othering those that stray too far from social norms and painting a target on their back. It's 100% fucked up.
Emire: Doxxing also lost it's meaning over time. If you so much as drop someone's main discord username it's consider doxxing. It's like as if you hang out in these fandom/community/alt discord spaces your information is automatically cataloged by some archive bot all what you need to find those archive is a username.
SugarPuck: Hot take: If you're playing a game where changes need made to a blacklist, it's probably because the community is so bad there needs police investigations. And ya should probably stay away.
Edit: This is the ONLY mmo I've ever needed to block people other than bot spam. And I'm at endgame in Most of them that are somewhat popular.
