10 Things I Wish I Knew Before Playing Fallout 76 in 2025

mystic9314: You forgot 3 free fast travel locations but nice video(Foundation, outpost in skyline valley,n the fishermen’s rest in the mire)

ukjeeper: Excavator PA. Easy to get, decent stats, plus the unique bonuses of extra carry weight (with calibrated shocks) and collects 4x the ore from nodes. Very useful in places like Lucky Hole Mine

Watchtowers. Around the map are several Watchtowers. If you see one climb the stairs and click on the platform railing. It adds all the locations around the tower. Doesn't unlock them until you go to them, but you'll learn where places are, quicker.

Fast travel. Didn't hear it mentioned but you can also fast travel to players not on your team, if you have friended them.

gymhayes4613: Dont do any content until you are level 50 otherwise your rewards will be under level 50.

MeLikesWindows: First tip: don't let enyone tell you what to do. It's you game.

Then do all of these:

Take the lvl 20 start, nothing bad happens, just a nice QoL at the start.

Don't be afraid to join the world events even as a low level and tag as many enemies as you can with one shot to get easy XP. Test your metal event secondary objectives give a lot of caps. Eviction notice has a lot of legendary spawns.

Atom shop has some free stuff the first time you visit and then free random consumables daily. Pick 'em up. (Check your player icon tab, it tends to use the last one you've unlocked)

When visiting other player camps check the items they have and loot anything you want. Many of us keep everything unlocked for anyone who passes by. You can get free chems, nuka colas and food with buffs. And more buffs from game machines and XP bonus from Mothman tome.

Sleeping in a bed gives 1 hour Well rested XP bonus. If you have an ally in your camp with romance options after their quest line it lasts longer.

Switch the perk card as you see fit while you go. No need to have cards like Hard bargain or Travel agent on all the time.

Later when you unlock the Punch Card Machine make two sets of perks. Big QoL, one click switch. One for combat and the other with max Charisma for better prices at vendors ( grape mentats, beer, quantum candy if you find any) and all the crafting/repair bonus or carry weight reducing perks you find useful for vendor/junk runs. Super Duper (luck) is a must have.

Do the scout quest/challenge badges to get to the possum rank for a bigger backpack ( 60 carry or other mods for badges) early. Scout dailies and Campfire Tales event can award extra badges to get the mods with very little effort.

Excavator power armor from one of the quest lines is good enough for almost everything in the game. It has lower defense and is unable to have a jet pack but has 100 carry full set bonus with 50 mod for each leg (Camdem park vendor). Main story will also guide you to a full set of Hellcat and X01 so there is no need to bother with anything else.

Avoid Ultracite power armor. It is nearly impossible to get mods for it.

Many Challenges award Atoms, some will complete as you play other need some extra work. Save the Atoms for later, don't burn them on useless cosmetics.

Vendors share caps but you can get twice the daily cap limit. One at any vendor bots and the other from the Wandering doctor npc that frequently spawns at northern burning springs. Someone might help you get there. Put one camp there for future fast travel but do not build there. The dust storms break camp items without weather control stations.

After the main story there will be few new vendors selling all sorts of plans for gold bullion. Smiley at Wayward sells gold bullion for caps if you need extra or want to burn some caps. He has a weekly limit that resets with weekly challenges. He is easy to forget about.

One of or if not the bigest mistakes I made was learning all the armor and weapon plans I could find or by scraping things. It dilutes the legendary loot pool with useless crap.

Or don't.

FenixHee: I'm gonna add to the list. Get a melon, plant them. This will help both hunger and thirst refill.

MonkNZ: Huh dof is for the blur not render distance

JesúsOrozco-x5d: Tu C. A. M. P ES INCREÍBLE

Lmwpitt: I only needed to know 1 thing before playing Fallout 76... That Bethesda created a subpar game, that effectively requires mods to function, and tries to fleece players of their cash for essentially mandatory upgrades.
