Shopping Cartimsalty9761: We told them this in the beginning and yet here we are everyone has 2 beams and the same armor on
imjustkentaro: My opinion on subclasses flipped when it just became the same 3 traitlines on every single player.
Verpal: subclassing to me is mostly a good thing for solo play, I intentionally gimp my character and don't equip best gear, and I use skill line base on theme and fun rather than actual performance.
However, all that falls apart in group play, I don't think it is nice of me to not pull out the meta set with meta skill line, it feels like burdening other if I keep using my solo ''fun'' builds.
michelangeloc.4265: Give older sets more power=
alichino5674: Subclassing has really highlighted how poorly balanced the skill lines are. Without an update that focuses on balancing them out the game is going to continue being Arcanist scrolls online.
bstroker: 100%, I haven’t been back since SC. 8k hours in ESO too
GrimJobReaper: 99% of the Mythic Items are dogshit I wish they would rework a lot of them
Aftermath1441: Subclassing has also brought players back to the game, like me, and I do believe there should be a buff for players that use their original class lines. A certain percentage for 2 or more of the original class skill lines.
mavsfanatic214: I would be fine with ZOS getting rid of subclassing entirely and putting in an overland difficulty option.
MidKnightOTC: That's exactly what i was afraid of. I just came back to the game after hiatus and studied the subclass changes. I immediately decided I'd rather pure class but knowing the game actively punishes you for doing so is a massive letdown.
naplzt4k: the problem with subclassing is the same problem with sets...only a handful of skills and sets are good so it limits creativity and diversity because you're forced to use the same thing as everyone else or get left behind
SudoKrondor: I put over 4000 hours in to ESO. Quit after sub-classing was introduced. One build to rule them all now... Will not be back, unless they roll back.
lemonpics24: I don't see this as a huge dev problem - I see this as a huge player culture problem. When I left the game years ago (just came back recently), 80K DPS was hard to hit and 100K was super rare - yet, somehow (gasp!) we cleared all the content (including vet/HMs, etc) just fine. Yet now I come back to ESO and the bare minimum expectation in guilds to run HMs (including older content) is 110K. This is the same content we ran with no issue on half that (granted, albeit a bit slower). So this is a player problem - I see no issue with so many of the off-meta builds I see that have a ceiling of 105K (or even less). The devs gave us all the flexibility in the world - and we, as players, continue to enforce a 'meta' and gatekeep because of it. Granted, there are plenty of guilds not
Trigarta: Couldn't agree more. Let's hope the game moves in a better direction next year.
leivendil: I love subclassing and have many awesome builds. Not only beam. Can't imagine playing without it now. That said, no need to nerf strong skill lines, buff weak ones like DK.
Adz2: Subclassing should have been limited to inheriting only 1 other class skill line, and it has to be like for like (swap DPS line for DPS line), also the class sets should be more powerful but also should require that the character has no subclass, all 3 skill lines must be the same class
G0K4Rx527: ESOs biggest problem right now is not subclassing but a dev team which releases one bad patch after the other. There is no testing on ZOSs side and it's complete chaos all the time. Dev team is completely out of touch with the player base. And the lack of exiting new content. And, I forgot: Other problem is beaming which just won't get nerfed.
StarOfElyon: Early this year, I got permanently banned from the forums for saying "they don't care about our feedback" but it's has been EVIDENT for years that they have not acted upon our feedback. How much more obvious can they make it: THEY DON'T CARE WHAT PLAYERS HAVE TO SAY.
mackax: I have over 2000 hours and quit because of subclassing. It is so immersion killing watching every single person on the trial just shooting beams
DmCNoki: The problem with subsclassing wasn't subclassing itself, the problem is still that they just nerfed the best skill lines instead of buffing the worst and weaker ones how the community suggested. They ignored ALL feedback on U47 and all went to shit! Player count is droping further.
nedomancer: subclassing ruined everything, its like the final nail in the coffin for me
merpins: I think that subclassing is cool, but was designed poorly since it gets rid of class identity. I feel like there could have been a better way to do it without fucking with that. One option could have been giving everyone a fourth class skill line; this fourth one is your subclass skill line, you get to choose one additional skill line from any other class, rather than replacing skill lines from your own class with other class skill lines. a lot of builds were already pretty tight on bar space, but it would have opened up new builds without destroying class identity.
I feel like some kind of change, like this one, could easily still be an option, but Zos isn't really known for taking player feedback seriously.
241sail6: Although you make some valid points, not everyone is trying to mathematically build some perfect character. Many of us only want to play and enjoy the game and the lore.
xuce6867: One idea I had to promote class identity would be to have skill styles that are based on your based class. Example would be a fire beam style that is only accessible if DK is your based class. Or a necromancer base class who has access to a skeleton bear if they subclass warden. There are still issues with skill line balancing but at least visually you can still feel like your base class.
simonw1252: The Lore-oriented bonuses you mentioned for class identity focus are bloody great ideas
