Some Good, Some Bad, Not Much Overall Week 2 PTS Patch Notes ESO Update 47 11.1.1

Niikk_: Only zos can go from a W to an L in 2 consecutive sentences.

Eso_lags: so basically a bad change reverted, and another bad change to make up for it. i think you should revoke that W for the time being. This team will never learn.

SJayne23: I called this the MOMENT they announced subclassing.

Its wild that anyone thought this nonsense was going to be good for the game.

evancalgary7684: honestly there is no fixing the damage subclassing added everything even remotely interesting will be nerfed to the ground to compensate for making a change no one needed, wanted, or truly required for the game. It was never designed for this from the ground up and theres no fixing it unless they outright remove it and admit it was a mistake. There will always be a meta setup you must follow for each character and everyone is now the same build for every role regardless of class we went from 21 viable builds across 3 roles to 3 variety has gone out the window. Half my guilds have already announced a probable shutdown or merge to retain the players left all my guilds went from like 100 active to like 35 to 40 at most and there's mass item giveaways to stop the player loss in my guilds and people in zones just giving away all there gold and stuff in all chat. The damage this has done is insane and I don't think the game can truly recover from this and the recent layoffs it will kill this game if it hasn't already

NobodyAsked-p5p: Lmao ZoS is just following Hyperioxes channel for nerfs. Storm Calling great for solo? Nonono. Voidmantle working with Overload to enable a high skill heavy attack playstyle? Naaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

sos9286: For all the talk of changing things for consistency they sure do love making things inconsistent. Very hypocritical of them to make Voidmantle not boost over load meanwhile overload is affected by Velothi.

I swear ESO is regressing as it goes on. Every time they add a system meant to add diversity or creativity all they really do is remove it. Pre-hybridization, and subclassing there were 6 classes and everything was well defined. 12 ways to play a DD (mag or stam), 6 ways to play a tank, and 6 ways to play a healer for a total of 24 ways to play. With hybridization there were 7 classes but with the homogenization of everything there were 7 ways to play tank, 7 ways to play healer, and 7 ways to play DD (hybrid) for a total of 21 ways to play, fewer than when there were only 6 classes. Now with subclassing all that is gone now we just have 2 ways to play tank (main tank vs off tank), 2 ways to play healer (raw healing vs mass shielding, and 2 ways to play DD (beam or non beam) for a total of 6 ways to play.

Yes I understand that there are technically many more iterations with sub classing and there's a lot more nuance with support DDs and so on. The point is that the way builds were defined have been changed over time. Pre-hybridization and hybridization for tanks and healers didn't do much outside of QoL for sets and abilities they ran. Each class still had a defined way of tanking and healing with different strengths and weaknesses. Pre-hybridization Damage dealers had defined stam or mag abilities with defined weapons and defined sets. Post- hybridization all DDs were hybrid builds with different flavors when it came to sustaining thus all the wizards with daggers and warriors with staves etc. Now with subclassing you build a tank either as a main tank with a ton of survivability and sustain or an off tank that offers a lot of group utility. Class doesn't really matter as you just swap a line depending on what you need for a particular trial. Same goes for healer, now you either go full in on healing and buffing or pushing out as much shielding and mitigation as possible with skill lines being dropped or added based on sustain or group need. Damage dealing is in the worst spot now where you either go full in on fatecarver / beaming or tentacular dread / standard rotation. With whatever the best skill lines for damage at the time being chosen. There's a lot of different flavors of those setups but there's no longer anything unique about it other than maybe a set like corpse burster, and the arc class mastery script. There's no more learning to build x class a particular way to make up for a class weakness so on and so forth.

While in the past there were always standouts in the meta like a DK tank being better than a Templar tank in most cases, if you wanted to play a Templar tank or still had its own unique play style.

Everything is just so watered down now and the difference in dps between running something like the meta arc NB spear/dawn/ardent flame and a for fun build like an elementalist themed build is such a large gap that it invalidates the elementalist build in most cases.

The devs just seem so hell bent on sucking any off meta fun out of the game. I just wish they would focus on raising the bar of under performing things and add back more unique skills and reasons to run them. This current PTS just really seems like we're still on the railroad of everything plays the same as everything else only it'll have a slightly different flavor.

wayoftheforesthand: I remember when my sorc had actual bound armor I could summon, then they changed it to glowing eyes, then it was a timed particle effect or floating knives. zos is going to zos, then come out with a new crown store item.

aHumbleChad: Rakkhat nerf might be due to players using it with Overload in PvP to nuke other players, but that seems like fair use of game mechanics to me.

EvolutionIX219: Release the files!

stonefire2795: Overload rakkhat was so much fun. And it wasn’t that strong or popular either. Took the fun away for the sake of doing it

aarondyer1537: "Voidmantle isnt properly penalizing the light attacks on overload! How should we fix it?"

*The logical solution here is to make it apply the penalty to overload light attacks.

*ZOS does not choose the logical solution, instead choosing to make it not effect the heavy attacks either.

*This was not, nor would it be, a meta defining ability, though it was competitive in the high end IF played perfectly.

jaeger3905: Zos: "We noticed the meta has shifted heavily in pve where the majority of the playerbase is and found that only a select few builds are being utilized."

Also Zos: "We nerfed everything that wasn't Arc/Temp beam instead of buffing skills to promote creativity. Our reasoning for this became apparent when we spectated xX_N'wah-With-Attitude_Xx bagging an rp build he dueled and we were disgusted. but then we heard him complain about how he was upset for almost losing a 4 hour 1vx against werewolves. we've decided to remove all forms of damage for abilities outside of his build."

Developer's Note: We've made an animation that makes your weapons sparkle after charging with a crown soul gem!

So pretty!!!!

vossboss220: ZOS: Oh... they didnt like that... ok lets undo the worst things slowly...

Also ZOS: lmao another indirect sorc nerf

raptorrodeogod: Gotta call it Underload now lmao

Redwolf322: ESO is in its death throes, I'll say it. People warned ZOS not to do these changes because it would take away the individuality of the classes themselves and break the game in more ways than one, but they did it anyway. The lowest player count ever to date since its ongoing release. Last but not least are the layoffs. RIP ESO, it was fun while it lasted

9fffoooxxx571: I remember a few days ago, one of my guildmates was discussing sets and builds. He said something like, 'My build is the best.' I told him, 'No, ZOS will nerf whatever is best.' He didn’t believe me, though. Now look what we have here. :)

GRAVEGAMING: Not sure whats up with the overload change lol. Ty as always!

samuraichicken2315: TBH, it would be better if they didn't nerf subclassing: endgame was broken before subclassing and will be after the nerfs but pure classes are going to get smashed for no reason.

lotrcdefender: If the big terrible nerf's stick what do we expect as far as replacing the damage increase for relentless focus? Like on your burning light build would you just replace a major savagery/prophecy buff skill with a DOT? Since merciless resolve is going give savagery and prophecy? Or will it still be necessary because on merciless it is limited to the 5 stack to activate?

MashMalloman: Your thumbnail had me with the Overload icon, making me think they heard about our issues with Bound Armaments or Lightning Form. I suppose if they could manage reverting the Balorgh in combat nonsense, there is some hope next week.. but the Overload Mythic change is ridiculous lol.

ZOS continues to make nerfs against anything remotely fun that is inherently niche. Just look at how they handled subclassing for Daedric Prey. The amount of excited pet tamers theory crafting before the PTS demolished. Use Fatecarver or play something else I guess.

kaworunagisa4009: So the pure Nightblade nerfs are staying as is. Welp, seems like my break from the game will become permanent. I don't even care anymore how much exactly dps I'm losing. I just feel like I've been tossed out like trash and spat on top.

SpcBuni: So ZOS isn't rethinking the nightblade changes? Got it!

GoochMuncher6969: I wasn’t using that mythic but the damage from it was irrelevant anyways why nerf something fun, especially since sorc is a lot of new players first class?

RubenRodriguez-bj2bo: Ohhh what happened with black rose prision that needs to be fixes?

bradwilson4387: Meta builds reign. Off-meta fun gets left behind.

manoot3216: I would love for someone on console to use the dps tracker on a full run showing what they get. RIP ELITES
