oblivion elderscrolls skyrim theelderscrolls elderscrollsonline elderscrollslore aedra

Reximus44: I think it's pretty definitively proven that Talos is a Devine when you use Tiber Septum blood in the oblivion quest to open the portal to Mankar Camoran's Paradise that requires "The Blood of a Devine"

jtk360: I love the godhead theory. That all of existence is inside of a dream. The divines are what give it a physical structure for normal people to live in. That's why the daedra realms feel more like dream realms.

spacecadet9663: What I always thought was weird was how little cross over the imperial cult (9 divines) have with the elven pantheon. The only gods they actually share are Akatosh and Mara, the rest are exclusively worshipped by humans

tylerpatti9038: They didn’t give up their immortality they gave up their full divinity

TheeLeodraco8: They lost a portion of there power that's it. They're still gods and VERY much immortal.

Fun Fact: The Stars in the elder scrolls universe are from other Gods that realized what lorkon was doing and ripped through the fabric of reality to return to Atherius, the plane where all the Gods are from

lorkrian13: This gets my stamp of approval

KnoxVondonberg: Damn knife ears not gonna tell me who i can and can't worship

Fourtytwo4242: Note: Talos is not the only mortal to become a god, there been a few and one khajiit thief may actually predate Talos by quite a bit. To become a god there two ways, reaching true chim (where you realize the universe is a dream but you are your own person.) or by mantling (over powering another god and taking their place, the oblivion main character does this.)

garrettneary3755: We definitely need a video on Sithis

Redguygamin: It should be mentioned that most of elder scrolls lore outside of what is witnessed in the games is all from in universe scholars mean as in our own world history especially when dealing with magical events are subject to interpretation and myths as the gods and how they are presented by different people change as well as events. For instance lorkhan is hated buy most mere while loved by most men and it seems they change based on worship as akitosh is a friendly god to the empire and men but Aurel the elven akitosh (maybe) is less found of the world. With the nord counter part being Alduin also a world ender. This is lead many to believe akitosh to be insane. another theory that I subscribe to is akitosh is lorkan mixed with Aurel created by alisea the first empress to help the god of men this is supported by the fact that akitosh is the god of time but lorkhan also has time powers as it’s confirmed out of universe that all the main characters of the games and some story’s like pelanel whitesdrake are all sheserins or avatars of lorkhan and the save and load system are in universe powers time powers that he can use.

kharjo8099: FAITHLESS IMPERIAL!!!! there are 9 divines

TerritorialPoplar: Id love some nore details. How did the Aedra get tricked? And why does their involvement make them more distant?

DesertGothi: Wasn't Arkay a mortal Aldmer who ascended as well?

imgoldleader3938: Your shirt got me with that background image.

jacobortmann4835: Ah yes, the origin of the Divines. The part about Lorkhan tricking them to create Mundus and how they caused them to lose much of their ability... that's very similar to the Valar and LotR. In Tolkien's creation myth its Eru Iluvitar who created the Ainur, who in turn created existence through the song of creation (tonal magic) and once they begin to labor in Arda (the world) they "take shape and form" and through their works infuse most of their essence into their creations. So in that sense...it's very similar to the Aedra we have in Elderscrolls we know as the 8 divines....because Talos hadn't acended yet. Yeah, turns out LotR did that too...Tulkas the champion of the Valar doesn't come with the original Valar and instead comes later when it becomes necessary to combat evil that the other Valar could not. (because by then they were drastically weakened through acts of creation) You see the parallels there though. By the same logic we also have the Balrogs, who were originally Valar but choose instead not to create and instead serve their master Melkor and his cause to taint/Mar creation. That's very similar to the Daedric Princes in the Elderscrolls too...Melkor in particular reminds me of Mehrunes Dagon and it's fitting his servants are "cloaked in shadow and flame."

I can't say for certain if LotR was the primary influence for some of the lore we get, but it certainly lines up nicely. I know too there's a ton of DnD people out there screaming at me that I'm wrong, ready to quote some H.P. Lovecraft....but to each their own lol. Hope someone at least found this observation interesting.

Loafbread9817: There is a obscure term your looking for to describe the type of immortality the divines have it’s cyclical they can technically die but at the same time they can come back so they’re not really dead they just have a respawn timer

ZevielS: Well correction the aedra gave it up. Daedra are different I know can kill there avatar making them bodeless but they do regenerate body eventually unless specific way like amulet of kings can be used to kill molag bal in a sense. Any single mortal can become a God. You become half God like vevic, amalexia, etc. then into a divine like Talos. Next is jone and jade who are above the aedra. So this is also above the aedra and ironically the father of all aedra and daedra. Then you got some above them I don't remember if it's final or more phases. But that's short bit. Also when a mortal becomes half God they either succeed or zero sum essentially there being crashes eradicating them and there soul to ash. That's lore in short bit on gods and achieving God hood stages

CrystalParadise80903: I definitely want more please. I'm a lore fiend.

relicturtle7373: Gota love being able to live forever, with weaknesses unknown to mere mortales lol sure they can die but they can take a whole lot lol mayb you can get into that next video the gods were brutal to each other too not just ppl

zakpeppers6594: I know this is off topic, but as I was listening I suddenly got the idea for a secret, Talos worshipping group for the Empire. The 9th legion, devoted to gaining strength so that they can one day fight off those damn high elves and allow the spread of Talos worship to renew.

_Chaosnight_: There are other God's of mortal making like Mannimarco who literally became a Moon and God, also having a mortal version of himself still on Nirn because the events that caused him to become a God split Mannimarco in 2, creating 2 version of him that exist at once

And the Numidium the machine God of the Dwemer that's was made using the heart of Lorkhan

So Talos isn't even unique because he was a mortal that became a God

skitzothejoker8413: I swear If he just called the plot to Elder Scrolls 6 lol

LordGarryk: This fine, but misses the point how differently men and mer see the creation of nirn. Men see it as shor(lorkhaan) convincing his fellow gods to creat3 something wonderful, whereas the mee see him as having tricked the gods.

This is weird because its technichally both?

The imperial cult has both men and mer gods, such as kynareth(kyne) being specifically an atmorran deity and the creator of men, as well as shors wife. Compare that to Akatosh(Auriel) who is very much an elven god, and the one who ultimately rips out lorkaans heart.

rexrazorback7650: Wow

jorgepiresjunior: Talos guides you.

thefiredogcult9523: Talos is a false god.
