Microsoft Layoffs Hit Zenimax and ESO

xandj3ll0x: Just seen one of your videos from 2 weeks ago hyping the game. Despite the news, decided to pick it up anyways. Here's to hoping it doesn't shut down o7

GrimalkinsQuill: Gotta sacrifice everything to make up for the genAI losses I guess

Hades358: I think it hit us the (eso fam) more than other studio/community because eso was really doing a 180 in a good direction. And the new direction was really really promising. The team was more communicative with the players. And the relation was going for the better. Thinking that Gina is no more in the team is a big shock. She was for many us " the face of eso". I hope they will continue this trend and in this direction they started taking this year. Because I was seeing light at the end of that tunnel.

bravelildragon: When ESO did their pivot into seasonal content and more focus on retouching classes and QoL, it brought me back to the game and made me so excited for the future updates. To see that impressive turnaround and rising goodwill be rewarded with a staff cut of HALF is absolutely devastating. ESO deserves so much better than this. The folks who made this incredible game with so much passion deserve so much better than this.

edit: youtube recommending “ESO is Still My Favorite MMO in 2026 (and Better Than Ever)” at the end of this is such a gut punch T-T

istvanzadori1397: I feel sorry for everyone who lost their job, but even after the layoffs, around 300 developers is more than enough to keep an MMO running smoothly. Most major online games operate with smaller teams, and ESO already has all of its core systems built. A leaner team can still deliver updates, fix issues, and keep the game healthy without any problem.

Leisurous: sucks man I love this game and the devs were doing great

CodeLife_12: The most insane part, is the fact they are cutting on a product that brings in money, to instead invest in AI which is costing 10x more than it brings.

The tech companies have gone completely insane with AI. It's high time the bubble burst and those imbeciles wake up.

BlardyDave: Really hoping this doesn't go the way new world did, Tamriel has been my home for years and its the only MMO i come back to. Hoping the best for those impacted.

PajoLZ: This is just terrible. I just got into the game under the impression that the game was getting its second wind and was only going up from there. Damn

crashlag420: Im. So. Fucking. Tired.

Kimory-Selkies: never got a chance to meet you in person, but been enjoying your content while I worked over the years, thanks for everything

roxannad9134: I will keep playing eso but no more extra purchases. Will give some thought on which game to start after eso.

aeee3254: Bro it just got put in lifesupport just like they did with new world. Amazon and Microsoft same. Mmo are in the worst state they have ever been.

ACE__OF___ACES: I feel like there needs to be laws that dictate, that when people are paying money via a monthly subscription, that that money should only be used for the game they are paying it for.

But that's not how it works. Bethesda pool their "pot" and give funding to each of their projects based on all the money that comes in.

That's not what consumers are paying for. I'm paying for ESO.

Not the development of something else.

Those who pay an ESO plus sub, for the craft bag, are generating their company millions each year.

The funding they get from other projects, site be for those projects only also. I don't want money funneled from one game to another in any situation.

It's not fair on the people who pay for the celebrant of the game.

Which btw. Is us... The player.

If we don't give them our money. They have none.

If they want to raise money for other projects they should do that, not funnel of things were a contact has been agreed to through a transaction....

But this is Microsoft were are talking about. They are never really held to account for how they treat their customers. V either directly as Microsoft, or through a label they own........

jacobt5725: I guess the best thing we can do is keep playing to show our support for the game!

jillkalter9008: Found this quotation from a person speaking on behalf of Microsoft:

"Microsoft has been managing down its workforce in order to pay for its AI investments. By keeping its headcount down they have been able to accelerate revenue growth while maintaining the same margins."

zvency: I mean, I wish them all the best. I hope it’s not the end of the game. I have not spent a dime other than Eso plus since they made an announced expansions are free. I’m not paying for a season pass for visual personalities or mounts.

TheDeadJester: Many of the devs and the community managers did everything they could to alienate the community they disagreed with. So as much as it’s sad they are going it can make the game a better, more focused effort ️

CrimsonBlueSky: I can’t believe they did this. They just killed the game. I feel so sorry for the people who lost their job. What a slap in the face to them!

vibongo: The devs fired were also responsible for the game being shit for the past 6 years.

zenwilds2911: Tragic

I just got back into ESO because they made some amazing new marble floors.

The changes to acquiring more Seals was phenomenal.

I subscribed to ESO for the first time in years.

And then this news

They were doing GOOD. They were delivering!

We even got more housing furniture slots... something I have been asking for since housing released.

The best and most wanted change in the game for me.

Devs delivered. FINALLY. After years of not giving players what we asked for.... we get what we asked for. We're happy.

And they lay off devs????

rix141-x5c: i don't think they lay off important people. They had a lot of DEI hire and very layered management and a lot of non important jobs.

Annette-h9q: I knew, the minute MS got involved with Zenimax, that it would be utterly destructive.

I completely agree with you.

I was finally excited about the roadmap upcoming and was extremely optimistic.

I’ve been playing ESO since day one.

Microsoft is a POS corporation.

ESO_PRIME: Most of the people let go were writers & media teams. Finn being let go is the biggest surprise.

takh6806: Are we screwed?

alexjohansson5512: all companies cut bloat from now and then. if nothing else, it usually helps organisations to become more efficient.

caliworkhorse3695: Remember twitter and how Musk ended the adult daycare program? ESO like X will actually improve and continue to be even better
