HOW SUBCLASSING KILLED ESO l Elder Scrolls Online Discussion

ZeroSum-x1j: Subclassing killed class identity; Hybridization pretty much killed skill based pvp; it's no longer a game for dedicated players who want to master their skills. Just press Arc beam for PvE, just utilize 3 meta skill lines for PvP; I'll come back when Brian Wheeler no longer has any role towards the future of this game

davidmckinley5343: They should limit it to one skill line so that you maintain class identity.

matthewmorris5954: Video could have just been all cris-crossing Arcanist beams and would it have been pretty accurate for PvE (in my experience). lol

ozzyatfrbrich: If sub-classing went away I wouldn't miss it.

miaththered: I still solo-class and it's a mechanical fact that we are at such a disadvantage it's unreal.

Agumon5: What's crazy is how preventable this was ... Players overwhelmingly told Zenimax that we did not like subclassing as it was planned in the implementation. They didn't listen. We posted it on their forms, we posted it on reddit, we made videos about it, and they didn't listen. People said they would stop playing, and they did. I know I did. I have not played ESO or subscribed to ESO plus since around June. Class identity was already very minimal, and they entirely killed it. They ruined the fantasy of playing the class. And in the process ruined the immersion for a lot of us.

I'm not coming back to the game. Even if they make changes, I'm done. I spent thousands of hours in the game and thousands of dollars on it. There was about a 9-month period in my life where I basically was playing Cyrodiil 6 to 8 hours a day.

I'm not going to spend the time to rank up skill lines again. I'm not going to go back into that grind. In a way I'm kind of thankful they f***

killer-t7vOfficialYT: This is Guildwars all over again. This is why they did away with multiclasses in the sequel, it was a nightmare to balance

miaththered: Absolutely correct thank you.

samuraichicken2315: Have a good Christmas. I will since I've switched over to Guild Wars 2.

TheRevan1337: It died way earlier than that. This just accelerated it further.

beep-m3i: Poorly Executed is the second name of the combat team since update 37. If ZOS doesn't let go of them, the players fire ZOS. It's time to make a clear cut.

Hithrae: As you say at first it seemed good, then over time the realisation hits you that it ruined the game. Sadly it won't ever be reverted.

vossboss220: Literally the most expected and predictable outcome ever that everyone on PTS warned about and they pushed it out anyway

cat_astronaut_: If I see an Arc/Nightblade again, I'm gonna scream

mattywells: I couldn't agree more. Game isn't even really fun anymore.

nightowl1337: You make so many great points and I feel the exact same way. All the time I spent crafting and building my DK, NB, Warden, all just worthless now.

ChurlishChud: I was a total ESO P1 for years. I'll never go back as long as subclassing exists.

KianAmyas: For me it's not the balance that bothers me. I can deal with that, whatever.

What really irked me is how I can no longer play my "solar/holy light/shiny gold mage" (templar) instead I'm forced to shoot slimy tentacles out my but now. Meh. And it's not really a choice. Even with barely any min-maxing just doing a basic subclass build is SO OVERWHELMINGLY superior in damage and defense that you just give up on even trying to make your class build lol.

I have 0 trust in them being WILLING to actually make big changes to fix this, like they are claiming to want, and more importantly I have 0 trust in their CAPABILITY of doing anything haha.

lWreyl: Subclassing doesn't work in ESO because the game is built around universal buffs and not class specific buffs; that and the lack of any sort of cooldowns or true class mechanics the way WoW or Guid Wars has class mechanics meant Subclassing was bound to create a single best meta build that every player has to run.

nagasolaire8462: I finished building my DK right before multiclassing was implemented. I'm a casual pvp player so I'm not very good in pvp, but still - I started winning in pvp 1v1 from time to time.

Then, with multiclassing I lost any chances to compete in PVP. Even my full tank build with 32k res was melting in like 2 seconds. Pvp was reduced to the couple of best builds and only for those who have sets, knowledge on all little tweaks etc.

Therefore I just quit and not planning go back anytime soon.

Very sad, because I loved ESO inspite many problems it had

Jannah_2k: YEP dead game

LazyLautrec: Yea I mean almost 90% of games that add subclassing/ multiclassing end horribly. The point of classes is to have class envy to need others to make up for your faults. When you take that away most games become trash. It’s literally dungeon and dragons 101 and has worked for 40 years.

ЯрославСуський: This is the most informative video on this topic I've seen. The class system has always existed in MMOs. Each class should have its own strengths and weaknesses. That's the only way to build group content. But in recent years, developers have been relying on those who perceive this game exclusively as a solo adventure. They don't want it to be an MMO

nuglifer: We tried to warn them. They sold this and now they will try to sell the solution.

Artremis2441: They can undo subclassing, work on class identity but if they can’t buff other classes damage to be on par with arcanist then that’s all your going to see running around, sadly to say that arcanist will be the top class for along time.

nightowl1337: If they wanted to change something then it should have been to choose racial passives. Racial passives don't make much of a difference but maybe would have allowed more races to play different roles. Wood Elf healers, Orc Shamans, Altmer Stamblades
