The Tragedy of Elden Ring Nightreign

morepower6800: It's most definitely not a "wasted potential" because it's absolutely fun to play and it has it's own charm and uniqueness so the fact that you said what you said it's just ridiculous

mr.billzellers7884: How are people still complaining about reused assets from Elden Ring, when the game is called ELDEN RING Nightreign.

Can we also call it wasted potential when the devs don’t have the resources to even get close to some of the expectations people have. I’m not saying the game doesn’t have issues but, saying the game is wasted potential when a small team is making a game and doesn’t have a lot of time to make these things. Look at outlast trials, they don’t add all that much stuff in a year, and that’s a year.

huf_brian2607: I disagree, this game has so many different ways to play and each character is extremely unique. My only real complaint of the game is the randomness factor. The map doesn’t change much even with the earth shifts so the routes do get repetitive. Also, really wish they’d add a voice chat and make all the sovereigns available at anytime. It feels like they had an idea, built it, realized it was going to not perform well and slapped elden ring on it. That being said, I’m “special” enough to where this scratches a very particular itch in my brain because it’s DS bosses and I have dumped 300 hours into Raider alone.

baharavi: It looks kind of cool, but I've never played it. One of my favorite things on do in fromsoft games is to take things really slow and explore every corner of the environment, having to rush through the world not being able to do that would take part of the fun out of it for me.

SugoiOniiSama: the craziest thing is for a small team nightreigns OST is peak gaming music dreglords theme is so good

WinstonWolfe21: This game is super fun! I have 400 hrs and love this game it’s more fun to me than most single player games and u can still play it solo or with one or two others

puppyz1lla: As someone who cuts every corner possible in open world games, Nightreign is my cup of tea

ShortGOD22: man idc i love this game lol

Siroxas: The biggest positive for nightreign is the future for other games. Who knows, imagine Dark souls 4 with actual co op instead of summoning. I get the charming for summoning, but it'd be dope with real co op and explore the world together. Overall, I wish they'd continue more on nightreign, it's very fun and deserves more love.

n8doggy733: Yup, I don’t even play anymore because Wylder is the only fun character to me and the runs always end up feeling the same.

michaelespinosa9168: Recluse for life. Harry scholar and the deathly hollows lol

benquirobiequiratman4646: training to add character creation to the game & Camp building

christianmcnaughton7494: Great video chop! But please do a podcast episode

donspagole9479: Duskbloods is gonna be wasted potential times a thousand. Such a shame they decided to waste such a cool premise and God knows how much dev time on multiplayer slop.

Qyzehfied: Ngl bro I got Elden Ring late and that game looked almost exactly the same with classes that’s why I didn’t get it. They showed you this. Should’ve EXPECTED this

basedbasil9261: I don’t like using the gaming industry’s standard of $60-$70 being the worth of a game. While $40 is less than the standard, it is also a bunch of reused assets from Elden Ring, and Elden Ring has shown us that game developers can cram a lot of content within a $60 title. Just because modern triple A has very expensive games with mediocre amount of content shouldn’t mean we should hold everything else to that standard. It should be the other way around where we should criticize triple A for not delivering as much content as these cheaper and better games.

What you should do is compare the price to other similar titles. I would consider nightreign to be a tiny bit on the expensive side considering the content we got for Elden Ring, still a good game, but I don’t think we should be comparing nightreign’s price or its dlc price to that of triple A games that keep pushing for more expensive games with not much more content to show.

And in terms of the dlc, base game had 8 nightlords(or 15 if you want to count the everdarks), 8 classes, and 1 map along with 4 shifting earths. While the dlc has 2 nightlords(3 if you want to count that maybe we get everdark balancers), 2 classes, a new map and shifting earth hybrid, and that’s it. For about 25% more content of the game where the core features are already implemented, I think praising the dlc for being $15 while the base game is $40 is a bit silly. I don’t feel disrespected about the price, but I don’t think it deserves that much praise either.

mattagricolo5589: Imagine a game that came out for EVERY major platform in 2025. Imagine it being a multiplayer game. Now imagine it NOT BEING CROSS PLATFORM.

Burberrydalive: Fromsoft always struggled with online and MP...for them to make a game focused solely on that is like EA forcing Bioware to make an action driven game. It's nonsense...and in this case screams cash grab. Especially since 90% of it is just rehashed ER.

Messmer-The-Impaler-n8i: The thing is this game was in early dev stages in 2021. So they based success stats based on Sekiro and DS3. They were popular, but Elden Ring turned out to be a phenomenon.

This is also the reason I believe SoTE took 2 years. They really werent prepared for the success. However given that ER was a major project, with Miyazaki an established name and GRR Martin's name attached, they took the hit from delays.

In case of Nightreign I think Fromaoft did not want to risk delays on an fresh name. This is actually rather typical of traditional Japanese business practices, at least thats what I heard from my dad who worked with Japanese execs back in the day.

I am rather sad that Nightreign's true potential will never really be harnessed. Hope some day they make some sort of a spiritual successor, that can build on the mechanics and ideas established here, because this game truly is lightning in a bottle. Sad that the bottle is not opening any time soon.

SP_Providence: Could you link me a source for where Ishizaki said this game isn't getting more DLC/Content? I've heard it said before on another YouTube video but I can't for the life of me find the interview where he said that.

deathsyrup: Dark Souls 2 had 3 15 dollar dlcs and they were all self contained levels. They could’ve easily done more here.

MoneyDMonke: Maybe . to a zombies guy like you. But their numbers were good enough to warrant a dlc . and please take a hint. Your none zombies / cod videos don't do too well and titling the video in a negative way also doesn't work . views are still on the wayyy lower side. Just make up something else about cod is trash this year like a lotta others and boom ! High views baby !

astalsupport: I hope they do come back with an update on this and at least give us the new limveld locations and shifting earth for the base game bosses.

MaxFlavorz: I have 200 hours and counting, game is amazing

pseudo-stereo: from will take whatever they learned from this and implement it in Duskbloods - rumor has it that it’s the most curated gameplay experience to date so here’s hoping.

Tib-45-BT: The point of the video:

Everyone expects it to be an AAA game
