The Lord of Gold and Grafting Elden Ring Lore

lukebarroso449: Godrick is still one of my favorite characters in the story. He is pitiful and a shame to his lineage, not because of his blood, but the actions he took.

harleysmith6333: Godrick proudly raising that drake head up and yelling, Forefathers one and all bear witness, is still one of the coolest moments in the whole game.

undead4500: kinda wish they gave Godefroy his own unique character model and more items and lore related to him lol.

MrKarnator: Godrick: I'm sorry, Odie. But i could not stop myself, after all it was a Monday... and i HATE Mondays.

Tarnished: Pizza delivery for a Garfield?

Godrick: (Snaps neck in the direction of the tarnished) It's CALLED lasagna! Pizza hut ought to work on surfing giant castles.

Tarnished: I work for Dominoes.

Godrick: Then it sounds like you could use a bit of a hand (multiple hands being revealed) you know, with making the pizzas?

Tarnished: Uhhhh-

Godrick: I command you to LAUGHT! Do you know what I've gone through to make that joke?

Sorry, i could not help myself.

claudiuskeat8336: Godrick was so inept he called what might be considered a very young Drake the "Truest of Dragons". And Drakes are supposed to be inferior to Dragons.

waleed6372: Born to be a targaryan forced to be a godfrey

blankdark7784: If only he could graft himself a reason to exist

launcelotdulake8075: I respect the fact that he doesn't take the coward's way out in the end. Weak as he was, he died a warrior.

KyleReed-fg4iy: If you ask me there is more to Godrick than meets the eye. People call him a coward, but the two biggest events of his cowardice is fleeing from Radahn and groveling to Malenia, is that really a bad idea? I mean you all got pasted by both of them and Godrick doesnt exactly have unlimited lives. Furthermore he had the chance to run when you were fighting him but he didnt. Maybe it was a pride thing, but i dont know. If you ask me Godrick was true to his warrior bloodline in his final stand. There was a lion inside of Godrick, an old, sickly lion, but a lion none the less.

KurwaRomek: Pathetic as he was he managed to steal Marika's own unique veil, the only item that enables shapeshifting as well as one of if not the most powerful great rune

minespatch: I appreciate the Godrefroy theory crafting.

Potential theory crafting on the similarities of the vulgar militia and shadow militia?

shadowwarrior3444: The irony of Godrick lies, not only in how his actions contrast Godfrey and Godwyn, the former attaching Serosh to him to keep his aggression in check while the latter made peace with the dragons, nor how his methods of grafting harken back to the Hornsent, Marika's hated enemies, but how his actions reveal that hidden and shameful truth about the Golden Order.

For all intents and purposes, Godrick's methods for grafting are a scaled-down and less ornate version of Marika's own ascension. Despite her hatred of the Hornsent, she ultimately gained access to Ascension by infiltrating and becoming a high member of their culture, she used the Dive Gate they built. A gate built out of blood, death, and corpses, grafted from the fallen. Such a sacrifice of life and souls needed to reach divinity.

One of the funniest lines to me in SOTE was how the Hornsent Grandma refers to Marika as a strumpet, implying that Marika beguiled and cheated her way to divinity, seducing the Hornsent leaders, and ultimately Hoarah Loux, a hero to the Hornsent, and ascended as God, with the once legendary Highlander becoming Godfrey, her Elden Lord. SHe was a thief and trickster who didn't earn her power, she stole it away, even if it was from people who were themselves awful.

Overall, most of the family of the Erdtree, despite their greater stature, are actually not too different from Godrick, they're just more fancy about it. Rykard literally feeds himself to the God-Devouring Serpent and eats all those offered to him, with the eventual goal to devour the Gods, justifying it as him just playing by the same rules as said Gods... but explain to me how eating and assimilating his victims to get stronger is any different from Godrick's grafting.

Ranni outright worked to have Godwyn assassinated, working with the Black Knives (and possibly Marika), to kill Godwyn under the shadow of night, killing him in soul to have him corrupt the Erdtree, while killing her own body to dodge her fate. While she's not completely selfish, she's not exactly going about her plans with honor in mind.

And then there's Miquella, who, when removed of all the bright aura and honeyed words of an 'Age of Compassion,' literally had his twin sister bio nuke Caelid, because he couldn't get one half-brother as his consort, brainwashed and had another half-brother killed all so he could use the corpse of said latter brother to house the soul of the former, as his consort in his plans to force peace and compassion throughout the Lands Between.

Funnily enough, other than Godwyn the Golden, and to a lesser extent Radahn and Malenia, the only Demigod offspring of Marika that tried to succeed through more honorable means were Messmer, Morgott, and Mohg, all of whom were taken advantage of, discarded, and met miserable ends.

Godrick's pitiful nature is really just a representation of his family, potential squandered by pride, selfishness, and ruthless ambition.

Ambulance_Raccoon: Ballin

noahherod8170: I've been hoping you all would make a video on Godrick the Grafted, so I quite well enjoyed this video. Godrick is who got me interested in Elden Ring. It was very late one night in early May of 2022. I saw a lore video of Godrick, and I found his story rather interesting. Not long after, I was actually able to play Elden Ring, and I loved it. Godrick will always hold a special place in my heart, for it was he who got me into Elden Ring. I actually own a prop Axe of Godrick.

GrayFennecR4x: So Godefroy is Godrick’s father and Godrick is his son? That makes a lot of sense because I always thought that how did Godwyn come to have Godrick if he didn’t have a wife but it made sense if he had a regular wife who had Godefroy and him having Godrick, so that really makes sense of how Godrick is a descendant of Godwyn and Godfrey

j2jizzi651: FIRST FINALLY!

Fiveisrightout6502: I don't think it's exactly fair to call Godrick a coward for 'hiding' in Stormveil when that's well... what castles are made for? By that logic Radahn is a coward not for attacking arguably the most fortified place in the lands between besides Leyndell

RommelStorm: I am once again reminded how phenomenal Godrick's VA was. I also immediately listened to his theme. Such a cool boss. I really like his lore, too.

chemshanauli6100: I enjoy base elden lore more than nightreign, since all they are doing is building off the lands between

codybunz6311: So since he's Godfrey's descendants does that mean his name is Godric Lou

Shiggy_: Great video! I'd love to see more base game lore, everyone's still obsessed with the dlc

Duke_Silver_Trei: I still wish they had added a mechanic for you to ally with one demigod to war for the throne.

I'd have chosen Godrick.

psychobrando9230: ive never forgotten godrick my favorite boss in elden ring
