The Full Story of Elden Ring Nightreign Explained

kharis9120: I want to try nightreign, but i have no friend.....

jacobbenjamin2664: When it came to Nightreign my expectations were low and my guard was high. They have handled it SO well though. I found myself being surprised at the depth of every individual Nightfarer, their stories, and how they are all connected. Everyone of them really felt like a FromSoft character, like they belonged in Elden Ring. I really cant decide if Wylder, Duchess, or Recluse are my favorite character.

It’s also fun to speculate about them. Like could Recluse be a parallel version of the Snowy Crone who trained Ranni? Is it possible the “Pinion Folk” are connected to the Storm Hawks and the Storm King? Is Windwail Knoll actually just a part of Stormveil/ Storm Hill in a different time? Idk but it’s fun to think about lol.

NightLordShadow: Only Iron-Eye is living in death. Him and the fellowship are a group of those who live in death. Which is why his ending ends the way it does, under the Golden Order those who live in death are hunted, so instead of stopping the Night, Iron-Eye prolongs it. None of the other characters are stated or implied to be those who live in death, likely instead they are guided by and resurrected by grace much like the base game tarnished. None of the other characters have gloam eyes like Iron-Eye, which is what marks him out to be one of those who lives in death.

KodasGarden: my favorite part of finishing everyone's journals was that we got a unique piece of music for them as you're in the final Remembrance. Raider's music was my favorite, but my favorite character story has to be Recluse's

frankvermillon9576: Lore : Revenant smol angri. The end

xXLunatikxXlul: We do have to remember that this is a parallel universe, and the director(

Junya Ishizaki) has made it clear during interviews, that Nightreign’s lore does not coincide with Elden Ring proper, but within Nightreign itself.

chasedavis9776: When I first saw revenant’s cutscenes I thought to myself “FromSoft isn’t playing around anymore” and I thought that they could 100% make a scary horror movie if they wanted

sebas3294ML: Ok, but what is the Nameless King doing there?

christianlaw1992: Isolde’s desire sounds a lot like what Gideon thinks Marika wants for the tarnished.

DrakusRecords: Thanks for this. Huge fan of Elden Ring but Nightreign's gameplay isn't for me. But I was curious to see how it fit into the rest of Elden Ring Lore.

Duni_of_Astora: I can't believe that after all these years, 4 Fromsoftware lore books, and no English players realize that the Elden ring is not a ring like the rings you put on your fingers. The word ring has at least 3 definitions

AlevianLance: I’ve been playing up to a total of 25 hours with only the madness nightlord left to beat. Throughout all of it, i’m in love with the agility of the duchess, the clutch potential of the guardian, and the aura of the wylder

mememan8352: I yet await the Blade And Sorcery Lore vid. Excellent vid (as per usual) keep up the great work!

zatharista: Just a little fun fact about Ironeye. Isolde is the name of Tristan's lover from Arthurian (King Arthur and the Knights of the Roundtable) Legend. So I like to think Ironeye's name is Tristan. It also accounts for his melancholic, edgy/emo nature.

DotTiuri: So, the Revenant: Putting an actual human skeleton inside of a puppet is honestly just not that weird for fromsoft or the world of elden ring. In Elden ring we see plenty of puppets some truly just marionetted but some have some modicum of consciousness in such creatures as manyu golems, the guardian puppets but then there are some with a greater degree of consciousness as for example: our lovely caretaker in this nightreigns version of the round table hold or in case of possessed puppets such as Ranni, Seluvis and Sellen 3/4 into her questline in Elden ring.

A consciousness as vivid as the Revenant is rare however and I assume that this is far from the only doll with human remains inside made by whoever made this doll. The human remains are likely there to hold vestiges of a soul artificial or not to animate it to a greater extent then most dolls can be animated in much the same way a sorcerers heart can be used as a core to animate/posses a doll

This does allude that most likely the doll was always meant to be animated at some point but never received the proper magic for it until the night took it upon themselves.

My head cannon was that this girl found the doll at some point and thought she was so beautiful that her parents bought it and just never told her what the doll was originally intended for.

She likely awoke somewhat due to her body possessing the capabilities and the intense care given by the girl fueled the consciousness as care, believe and faith can manifest in miraculous ways in all fromsoft stories due to the nature of those universes.

PerfectCell420: Fans: The lore of Elden Ring can’t possibly get more fucked

Miyazaki: Laughs in Nightreign

thenewsatinbobcat5575: My Nightreign theories:

1. The Great Jaw Nightlord is the Recluses baby.

This is mostly based on the description of the baby's actions.

A. Gluttonous to the point of devouring the witch of the wheel alive.

B. Capable of defeating an army.

C. Had audience with the Nightlord.

2. The Nightlords are seperate individuals.

This theory is entirely based on how uniquely different and sentient each of them are from one another.

Biggest example is the one refured to as the demon. (honestly forgot all of the Nightlords names) The Demon will randomly appear within your world, offering a bargain or to break the curse they placed. If all of the Nightlords were just the main one in different/stolen forms, I don't think they would keep their unique traits like The Demon does.

Or how the Centaur will grow a new arm in phase 2 of their fight, something that I remember hearing was gifted to him by the Main Nightlord.

3. The Main Nightlord is connected to the Carian royal family.

Based on their signature weapon, which is just the Fullmoon Greatsword, they are most definitely connected to the Carian family, potentially a brother to Renala lost to time. Most likely during a time when the Nox and the Carian family were allied, before the Nox were banished.

4. Bosses in both Eldenring and Nightreign are named by the player character.

Let me explain.

In Nightreign, when facing either Godrick or Morgot, their names are Monarch and Fell Omen.

This could be due to the Night Feyers having scattered memories or the fact that some don't come from the Lands Between.

But either way, Fromsoft could've kept the names the same but decided to change them for obvious lore purposes. (They most likely didn't for the Darksouls bosses because why would they? They aren't really a part of Nightreign/Eldenrings lore, pretty much drawn here as quick cameo fights.)

jamesarnold5884: The only thing I outright disagree with is the theory that Heolster is every Nightlord.

Other than that this was a great summary of the story! It really helped ground me!

janpatroch7190: I find it unlikely for them to be all ''those who live in death'' as Duchess and Wylder are about actualy saving the other one. Duchess tryes to save wylder who is said to be injured in the outside world, hinting that their time in roundtable is sort off diferend dimension where they can fck with rules to try again and again againts the night, and after the night they will resume their life (most of them) outside.

Also gotta share my teory about the night for anyone interested. If the Order is light that inherently cast shadow (as can be seen in elden ring) what is the diference between shadow and night? well, id like to think that shadows are the sins of the imperfect order, and the night is the punisment, etc. revenge of those put in the shadow. An atempt to destroy both the order and its mistakes/shadow (frenzy goat is even a part of the nightlord). To put it in non elden ring terms: rules are imperfect = people get hurt = someone will try to destroy the system whole.

Roundtable hold is said to be a way to attone for the first sin = for the mistakes of the order, their offsprings are forced to fight and suffer againts those who were hurt by the order.

This way the symbolisms rly makes sense for me. It combines that ''first sins'' theme with the Order its philosophies .

JustAnAcoustic61: In my head cannon, there is an era without a lord in the main game. It takes place between the ended reign of dragonlord Placiduesax (the two headed dragon was the last Elden lord of the lands between until its outer god seemingly abandoned them.) and before Marikas reign of order. There’s a duality of order and chaos in the main game that even portrays itself within Marika and Radagon. This nightlord is often depicted as a form of chaos. (Fully aware this is a separate timeline taking place AFTER THE SHATTERING) However, in the timeframe where there was no lord, no order, it makes sense for chaos to rain down and destroy the lands. The erdtree and revival of grace at the end of the game, along with the disappearance/death of the nightfarers has brought upon the greater will, I’d assume, and it will need a vassal/vessel which is where marika could come in to place. So my question is, what happened between marikas and the dragon lords reign?

J0n4THANATOS: Revenant and Duchess are very Bloodborne.
