DakkTribal88-TTV: of all my characters, 4 use straight swords as their primary melee weapon: Sword of Night & Flame for my Death Mage, Carian Knight Sword for my Elemental Mage, Coded Sword for my Dragon Priestess, and the Miquellan Knight Sword for my Paladin. The last one is my favorite mainly because of the R2 charge attack. Closing the distance with enemies is just too good to ignore...despite the drawback of the fact that the sword deals Holy damage.

thecatinthefedora1201: 17:55 btw this strength scaling is the exact same problem as the Lamenting Visage, where the base damage is so poor that it doesn't matter how much strength you pour into it, it still loses out to other options. It's even worse on Lamenting Visage IMO, because the range actually feels worse than other torches (yes, I did in fact beat the game with only torches, and Sentry's Torch ended up actually being one of my mainstays)

Patrick-bn5rp: I think the bigger thing we need to consider about weapons is whether they are somber or standard. Somber weapons are much easier to upgrade. Obviously some somber weapons are better than others, but most sombers are competent, at least, on top of being easy to upgrade.
