A phrase that normally is used to describe the uncanny skill for certain birds to return home is implied by the subject of the painting to here refer to a mortal’s inevitable return to death despite clinging to life so hard.

Like, the name goes harder than the painting itself, and both are elevated.

iamthewii4851: With Homing Instinct, I'm surprised Rusty didn't mention that the bridge gives the shape of another tombstone! I take this to mean that death isn't just what we make of it, like the graves on the ground: it's integral to the world itself. If you explore your surroundings, all you will experience is death. Therefore, the "Homing Instinct" title is a bit ironic; our eyes "hone in" to the horizon to try and escape the tombstones, and even there... we find death.

Nixcillian: 4:48 Yes, I do feel stupid and pedantic typing this, but, at least to me, the painting Resurrection is referencing Renalla's Great Rune's ability of rebirth which, for people that aren't the protagonist of a video game that need to respec, is a literal remaking of you entirely. The gravestones in the front imply the death part and the Academy rising above it is a symbol of rising from death anew. The Academy even towers over the lesser erdtree in the back, which feels to me like an intentional middle finger to the Golden Order and the practice of erdtree burial. There's also the academy uniform you get as a reward, which we only see worn by those reborn by Renalla. That's my interpretation of it anyway

Fire's Deadly Sin is a Prophecy and the Warhawk is a Flightless Bird.

The rest of this is an explanation for why Flightless Bird is a fitting name for the reward. Aside from "Hawk = Bird"

Aside from the fact that Warhawks don't actually fly in game and can fall off ledges, there's also the fact that it's the spirit of a dead Warhawk.

This means that the bird was indeed flightless until you find and summon it, and it returns to being flightless when it leaves.

Also, could be a metaphor.

The bird died in battle, and taking flight is symbolic of freedom. So, in flying recklessly, it lost its freedom and now fights for the owner of the spirit ashes that are used to summon it, making it flightless.
