Dragons Dogma 2 Dark Arisen Is There an Elden Ring Dark Souls Connection?

MuskanSolanki-k9f1x: Look forward to this one.

With 6 skills as well as unique combat skills and options tied to itemization it might finally be the game it was ment to be from the start.

Spookytrer3: this script was written in 2000. Long before DarkSouls.

Noone-wo8mk: Look forward to this one.

Akimwbpop: My only issue with DD2 is lack of mob variety.

EJohns1004: If everyone could agree to stop using the term "Souls-like" and stop comparing everything to Dark Souls for 5 whole seconds.

Gems02: Why would we want a connection? Dogma is unique innovative and creative souls games aren't.

Noraver_Tidaer: I'm wondering if CAPCOM is even going to flip their OWN cycle on its head. Rather than a story about Arisen who wanted eternal life and power (Like the Duke and the Dragonforged in the first game), I wouldn't mind seeing a dragon who didn't want to be killed by the arisen they chose after learning of the eternal cycle. Thus, he loses his heart and his body and mind begin to waste away. So many options, but this is the more interesting one in my opinion.

Varre922: 9:52, I mean not really, Rottais, the guy who founded Vermund in the first place and the first Sovran of Vermund, was implied to be the former Seneschal who rebelled and kinda screwed everything up (He's also outright stated to be the Seneschal in the original Japanese. )

e.s.thesecond: DD2 was my first dogma game and I love it. I hope they continue to expand the relationship building with the pawns- I really enjoyed that aspect of the game and found it to be quite unique and enjoyable.

rogue4340: Hoping the dlc fixes and improves the base game like it did with the First game

Nero_PR: I'll beat you for this title

r.e.z9428: All this time Im still waiting for the MonsterHunter/Dragons Dogma Crossover. Could have us fight Grigori, give our Palico’s dragonsplauge and turn against us, could have Into Free blaring….

StarBoundLG: DD2’s Unmoored World was epic. Testing the Arisen with tonnes of the baddest beasties, & granting the best rewards. Hope they tweak NG , so I’m still challenged, when I return. Like Demon’s Souls’ NG . All in all, stoked for this DLC, & it might be my next day 1 purchase

mushurick4633: I’ll just say Dragons Dogma is a stand alone, but like Dark souls is just referencing Berserk just like Dragons Dogma

Darkstalker212: No, Dragons Dogma is not inspired by Dark Souls!! Not everything that's medieval/fantasy always gotta evolve around Dark Souls smh

MrDogmatic97: The Rift is a castle that was explorable in Online Dragons Dogma, do your research

MrDogmatic97: No Fextralife they are clearly inspired by the lost season 4 of DDON that an ice region was teased

indeedgaminghere401: Can ya'l please stop trying to tie every RPG to Soul's games? I promise you these games existed before FromSoftware got popular smfh.

HawkeTheSnake: I found the baseline story of Vermund and Bakbatahl, terribly bland. Generic fantasy stock down to the rote tropes.

Gran Soran on the other hand was wonderfully, uniquely strange. With characters who's bizarre self-same familiarity with themselves and you were the first hints of the strange cyclical nature of this world's storytelling. The machinations of Disa and Brand's stallwort defense of his people are almost paint-by-numbers, offering little in the way of rich creative impetus. It's one of the reasons I was quite disappointed by DD2, for the setting and world of DD1 was so engaging and strange.

The combat mechanics of 2 were all that kept me going, it was good and fun to uppercut monsters with a big fuckoff greatsword. I dont think they can fully rewrite the story and tone in a way that'd make the base game more engaging from a writing, dialogue, and tonal standpoint. Here's hoping.

yharnamiyhill787: Slight additions to the plot of Dark Arisen 1.

Ora - Dark Arisen's pawn - was created in his mentor's image. He was adopted by his mentor, trained him how to slay monsters; and became his mother figure to eventually infatuation as a woman.

One day, she suddenly disappears and became a Red Dragon - unbeknownst to him. It is when they crossed paths in battle was when she took his heart, turning him into an Arisen.

Still ignorant, and devout to the quest of slaying the Red Dragon, he created a pawn in his mentor's image. (The woman whom he loves as a mentor, mother, and a woman.)

He formed a romantic bond with his pawn, and she developed her own sentience.

This is where the tragedy of the Dark Arisen takes place. He was given the choice of sacrificing his pawn, in the image of the woman he loves, and whom he does love as an individual; or kill the Red Dragon - his mentor.

He chose neither - and devoted rage and wrath upon the cycle. Hence his corrupted body we fight as a final boss.

We get to liberate his soul, but the collective multidimensional hatred of infinite worlds created a demiurge that reactivated his empty body. (Which is why we are task slay it over and over again.)

jonathangaschke4043: I love the wiki you made for this game. Will you be updating it for the expansion?

PerryDavisIII: FYI: Dark Souls 1 was released in 2011 and Dragon's Dogma 1 was released in 2022. So I wouldn't say Dogma was inspired by Dark souls since the games were beening made around the same time

IamSumfoo: The most frustrating thing about the story, for me, is the absence of telling it. The DD lore is rich but the way it gets told in game is nearly Destiny 1 level. Hopefully they will take the time required to tell the story. Stop relying on tropes and giving short and vague dialogue.

MrDogmatic97: The DDON connections not being mentioned is a crime

SkinnyRyz: The last proper Seneschal was the founder of Vermund, he got bored of watching from above and popped back down to rule a kingdom instead. That's why the Arisen is always the ruler of Vermund

collislbryant4435: Im not a fan of how maybe not rich but extensive the story is in Vermund but then once you get to Bakbattahl it just like torpedoes to the end. I would mind if they added more story content to the main story, especially the later half/third

mr.dilanger: yeah yeah yeah wtf ever...but can you do.....round house kicks?
