Astel, Naturalborn of the Void Boss Designs of Elden Ring 17

samalmond2321: Words can't describe how happy I was to see Skyen putting up another episode so quickly

triforceadm7345: Skyen doing more than one in a single week? Man's the GOAT

chrisswanepoel7389: An interesting note on Ranni's whole shtick is she consistently, intensively, describes her path as a negative but necessary thing. "Dark path", "leaden moon", "stole Death", "chill night", "I must betray everything". Very unlike her father's glorious golden order of everything-being-perfect-and-in-its-due-place which is consistently described as "good", "glorious", "exalted", and whatnot by its adherents

Take that together with all the evidence of Ranni's underlying care - her interference in the Tarnished's fight with Rennala, which one imagines must have been quite an exertion for no pragmatic benefit to her goal; her care for Blaidd and Iji that shines through when she speaks more openly; the care she shows the Tarnished after he returns her ring; etc - and the evidence of more childish or insecure behaviors (books as elevated seats, the tsundere interactions, the edgy dialogue, and so on) which contrast sharply with the sort of deep determination that is evidenced by her self-sacrifice and willingness to fight the direct messengers of the Greater Will to death, and the most coherent image is one of someone who is young and overwhelmed, but set on the imperative importance of her goal nonetheless. Childish idealistic naivete, tarnished with the stains of a painful death and a deep guilt yet still holding strong

Perhaps some of her reluctance to have the Tarnished pulled along into her conflict with the Two Fingers proper is backlash on her psyche from the sheer consequence her initial actions had. Had things not been as fragile and rotten within as they were under the shining surface at the time, far fewer may have died, as was perhaps her hope and her plan, leaving her a bit gun-shy about the potential costs of her later actions

nunyabisness7055: I think an important thing to note about Ranni's decision causing the shattering is that the world was already burning.

PookySeinAccount: aaa alreadyyy?? i love you platonically

gabrielmartinspedra5598: Is this calculus? Because these are so many juicy tangents

kurokagator4567: Yk how hard he must've locked in on the editing to pump these two episodes out back to back. Respect man, and thank you so much for this

BluTacApostle: Simply amazing.

Particularly in the writing, the performance and delivery, and the video editing.

antidotebrain69: Oh greater algorithm, the guidance of grace or whatever.

Idk.

We are born of the algorithm, made men by the algorithm, and die by the algorithm.

Fear the old algorithm.

pommedeter7407: i dont mind if the elden ring videos take a decade to finish. But i will admit having two episodes in rapid succession did feel quite nice

tanirst239: A most bountiful feast indeed

Tortle-Man: I’ve always had a pet theory about Ranni’s decision. I think Ranni was supposed to marry Godwin, and she didn’t want too. While we Player know that the Royal Family was about as inbred as the Hapsburg’s bakery, that wasn’t known in universe. Most people assumed Radagon and Marisa were two separate people. This makes the issue of succession difficult. While Radagon and Marika had their own children with other partners, Renalla and Godfrey, their Children with each other were technically half siblings. Likewise, Malenia and Miquella were cursed. The only favored child was really Godwyn, and the only royal woman in the lands between would have been Ranni. As far as people knew they were not related, unlike all of Radagon’s children. One was the heir to gold, the other the heir to silver. They marriage would have unified the golden order, Raya Lucaria and Leyendell. Of course, they actually were related, and seeing as this would make Ranni the new “God” of the golden order, with no free will of her own, I could see where she would reject this. She saw what the golden order did to her mother, so it’s reasonable she would accept death over subjugation.

galaksina: Having watched your Dark Soul's 1 playthrough, and being in the middle of Dark Souls 2, your approach to views of the games, design and overall sense of humour has been some of my most enjoyed videos ever honestly. As a sponge brain for lore when it comes to mass effect, dragon age and other games like it, seeing someone hunt those bits of lore and actually remember what he finds out is like if I played the game myself xD (Closest i've played to these have been Code Vein).

Leaving it here cause I happened to be notified of this video - suppose as a little comment that your previous series still bring joy to new viewers. Cant wait to catch up and watch this after bloodborne <3

VGM00021: Astel's orbs also remind me of how Lovecraft described the presence of Yog-Sothoth as oily spheres.

officialdeath278: Interesting thing that connects the Bloodborne design philosophy to this boss;

Each of the Great Ones you meet in the game (Moon Presence, Amygdala, Kos's corpse and the Brain of Mensis) have six fingers on their hands, which is part of what symbolizes them to be ascended beings and connects them as Kin.

And how many fingers does Astel have on its main hands? Six.

TickleIvory: 'Captain Hamster Brains' makes me laugh every single time I hear it. Love it.

Also thank you so much for this episode. I loved all aspects of your videos, including the humor, but man, your analysis continues to be the most insightful into these characters and this world.

Starhunter-k1c: Two in a single week? You spoil us Skyen! And on my personal favourate boss design too, no less.

draycen7242: That ending.. Don't make me cry again Skyen :(

davideg4321: And so closes the quest of murderous blueberry. Girl has a gigantic brain, perfectly smooth. A perfect plan to change the status quo, with exceptional timing to ritually kill her body and her brother, but absolutely zero foresight for any consequence. All the research to find Nokron and a way to kill the fingers, to then get stuck in a little doll cornered by a shadow.

Full INT, no WIS. But a lot of courage to see her choices to the end.

Of course I'll choose her ending, that's perfect adventurer catnip.

I really like this series, I get to remember all the great stories of this game, and get a different perspective on it. Thanks man

aerieleah533: You're amazing. I know you've been struggling recently, and imposter syndrome is strongly engrained in you. But just know we are a patient and loving lot here. Your videos make me smile and are always as fun as they are inciteful. I want the person who made them to take care of themselves first though.

Edit: I remarathoned your whole series when I sae you post that last one too.

Rocks_nom_nom_nom: You wanna know how long I've been waiting for this oooooooo I'm so hyped like I LOVE Astel I'm talking like full adhtism obsession for 2 years, I'm talking this Man? Girl? Centepe? Scorpion? Dragonfly?! Whatever the case has been stuck as my phone lock screen for that time, I'm talking doodling this planet bug monster thing almost every bloody week at least once in class since it's out. I NEED THIS I need to have a video onits design from someone who's opinions respect and who I trust with my precious void monster Boi. I am soooooooo hyped just seeing this video being announced made my day if not week xD.

emerald0310: Oh hell yeah, I can’t wait to see you break down this monstrosity
