It is very likely he realized Marika would send out the guidance of grace to the Tarnished in the wake of the Demigod Childrens' failures. He probably intended to wait for the Tarnished at his leisure, but Ansbach challenged him around this time, scoring a grievous injury on Miquella, thus forcing him to alter his plans. He laid a path out for the Tarnished alongside St. Trina (or Trina started leaving her lilies after being separated later on) and asked that Melina and Ranni deliver Torrent and the bell to his selected Tarnished warrior. So he likely went to the Chapel of Anticipation and set a path for select Tarnished to follow after he was wounded by Ansbach. It would explain why Melina found us early on, as Torrent would've learned of our arrival while watching the coast around Limgrave before we were washed into a cave.

Zepimo123: surprised to see someone else mention St Trina as "toxic love" as it's a conclusion I came to after the dlc came out, it's one of those things that is pretty clearly laid out but not many people take notice to her association with poison. She is also associated with addiction (you have to literally become addicted to her blood to get a response from her, and again Thiolliers entire character is clearly a drug addiction allegory, like cmon, a "hidden needle")

furthermore, Trina is shown too to be the embodiment of Miquellas doubt. We see this through Thiollier constantly doubting himself, and we see this with Trina as she still doubts Miquella. How I take it is that Trinas forceful love was holding Miquella back. The best comparison I can give is that it's like a parent being overly protective of their child, it's an intense love, but it is doing harm to the child in the long term.

I also completely believe that this was the source of Miquella's nascency. St Trina was the source of his curse. You can see in the trailer, when Miquella throws St Trina down the pit, she looks very eerily like the Nascent Butterfly.

This is why when we fight Miquella he is no longer a child, discarding Trina was to cure himself.

I have my own theory as to what St Trina is. I believe she is the same concept as Millicent. A persona of the empyreans internal struggle, sourced from an outergod. for Malenia it was the Outergod of Rot. and for Miquella, well, I personally very strongly believe that it was the Mother of Truth. Trina has an association with blood (see how many bloodfiends are where she was discarded, patrolling the cross) her blood infused with the Putrescent knight, giving it powers, and beyond just blood she has an association with hidden truths. There's also Trina's torch, with the adult Trina. that has a third eye, which symbolizes not only the fore mentioned hidden truth, but is also symbolic of spiritual enlightenment and the perception of higher planes of being, all of which are associated with the Formless Mother/Mother of Truth.

Im pretty sure that the nox aqueduct was used to drain the or harness the power of the siofra faerie. The spot where the two gargoyles are is very simalar to the ainsel river main headwaters where i think the fairy of the Aainsel is hiding. Siofra headwaters is completey drained.

Also a lot of people dont realise how much of eldenring is based off celtic and nose mythology. In a celtic myth, giant ants symbolize death.
