NileForce2214: there was a kind of similar situation with a game called Icarus a while back.

it was basically the closest thing to an extraction game that a survival game could be. idea was, you'd go down on missions, drop into the world with nothing, build up infrastructure like a base and farm stuff, then use the tools you've made to complete an objective. once you complete it, mission is done and you can extract back to orbit.

the thing that people DIDN'T like was that everything but a special material called exotics was wiped from your inventory when you go back up, so you'd have to start fresh every time. it wasn't advertised in the playtests that this was the vision they wanted to go with, playtests were more of a "free roam" type of thing, and people thought the timers on their worlds were for easy dev maintenance during playtests, and would be removed afterwards. there was exotic gear like deployables, tools, weapons, and armor you could purchase with currency you got from completing missions, and these could be extracted with and used on as many missions as you wanted, but people still weren't satisfied and felt kind of betrayed.

in the end, they cut their losses and added an open world mode, even eventually integrating the main missions into that mode. while i liked the idea of the starting new every time (can't say the same for the direction DnD is going) because i thought it was way more satisfying to reach a point where you basically have a mobile base able to be dropped down late game, most players didn't like it, and despite there being a small amount of people who did like the "original vision" it was very apparent and even openly admitted by devs that icarus would be kind of doomed if they didn't change course.

the main difference i can see between icarus's situation and dnd's situation is the ego of the lead devs. Dean was able to take the L on his vision not taking off, evidently sdf can't. truly, there are a lot of situations where the lead dev resigning wouldn't fix much, but in this situation, it would be the one best thing that could happen to the game. the second best thing would be whoever replaces him firing Graysun.

this genre clearly isnt for them if they need to bring up how they couldnt W key a barb in legendary gear to death in squire gear.

lordento: Honestly Ive quit dark after almost 2k hours and went to legacy steel & sorcery and they got the solution that dark and darker needs like hear me out:

- add back modifiers

- remove marketplace (keep the trading hub and MAYBE limit it to just unique & artifact trading)

- give vendors the option to update gear via collecting mob loot etc. (f.E. turning greens into blues)

Like im honestly blown away how much more rewarding looting and pve in legacy is its crazy and best thing its all ssf, no marketplace to crutch buy bis, you craft everything yourself and its not even hard to do like do one run for stuff you want and you'll get it. And lets be honest WHO crafts his own gear in dark ppl just craft and gem it for marketplace.

He really is destroying this game and is in complete denial and it will cost everyone at Ironmace their job when the game finally completely dies.
