HanaForAll: Isn't x.4 patches pretty much dropping the current expac's story and setting up the next expac a normal thing that's been a staple of the storyline since ARR?

- 2.4 had us investigating into Ishgard and put a sizeable focus on Iceheart while getting the WoL involved in Ishgardian politics and the Dragonsong war,

- 3.4 had us moving away from the Dragonsong war and towards the warriors of darkness plot thread and we largely avoid Ishgard and instead go to Xelphatol and Little Ala Mhigo. Then we transition into the Griffin plotline and Baelsar's Wall, setting up Stormblood,

- 4.4 had us going to the Burn to meet the reformed ascian-slaying Gaius and the rest of the patch story is setup for Shadowbringers introducing the chemical weapon the Garleans were gonna use to trigger a calamity. Can't remember it off the top of my head but it's to do with the Aetheric situation of Norvrandt,

- 5.4 literally just takes us out of Norvrandt for grand company shenanigans and introduces us to the looming threat of the Telepheroi through their towers and our first introduction to the artificial tempering of Garlean soldiers,

- 6.4 is all about the void and has very little to actually do with Endwalker's story, just using the moon as a backdrop. Since Endwalker was meant to be an arc finale this is kind of the most disconnected one since it doesn't lead up to the upcoming expansion, they left that for 6.5.

Idk, I'm glad Dawntrail's botched premise is over, but this just seems like business as usual and unless they sacked Hiroi and put Yoshi and Ishikawa back in their proper places, I wouldn't hold high hopes for the next storyline being much better either because at the end of the day Dawntrail wasn't bad just because it's Dawntrail or because FFXIV caught the woke mind virus (people on twitter will unironically say this to you and actually believe it), it's bad because notorious hack writer Hiroi got put in the head writer's chair and got staffed with a studio full of yesmen who wouldn't say no to his donut steel ill-fitting poorly-written OCs. Want another example of Hiroi's hackery? Replay the Bozja storyline, there's a reason they canned the third zone.

EDIT: As a followup after rewatching... yeah, Hiroi's writing is all over this patch despite this being the classic "next expac setup" patch. You pointed out a lot of the inconsistences yourself. Either they've got a new writing team and they're having to adapt the storyboarding framework that Hiroi's team put into motion or the new team is just as bad.

Also, Wuk Lamat literally getting dragged away by Children and then not showing up for the rest of the Patch just felt too funny

Thanks for providing the update, I assume they took onboard the massive disappointment everyone felt with the lack of Krile love in the DT main story, I do think it makes sense that their "scanners showed no life" when there actually might have been as it could all have been part of some plan by the AI (which I assumed back in the DT main quest when that came up).

Hopefully the dev team learned their lesson with DT and actually listen to the players.

Seriously, though, I was almost shocked how overt it was stated in the very first 7.4 MSQ quest that DT is over.

bergeremit2530: 8-man Raid was nice until the end.... i was angry at the BS pulled at the end. MSQ was nice and was probably THE BEST writing of the whole XPAC. Sure it was obvious and easy to see but way, way better then before. I still have the question of "Loot, can i have some?" and "Why the events are so ass?" also "Why is PVP so brainless and grindy?".
