Shopping Cart171stStreetGames: People somehow gleaning that they're gonna completely reboot the game again NOW is utterly absurd. If they were gonna pull that trigger it would have been after Endwalker, when that whole 10 year story arc that started with A Realm Reborn was concluded. They wouldn't have released Dawntrail to lay the groundwork for the next overarching main story and THEN reboot the whole game. That would be batshit crazy.
DrForester: I've always had a bit of a dream that over the past 4 or 5 years, there's been a small team at SE working on revamping the game code, so they can finally be free of the spaghetti code that causes problem to this day.
ray30k: Time to drop the other moon!
That said: I think the game would benefit from a new 'entry point,' either with 8.0 or later. Right now, if a friend wants to join, they have to burn through a LOT of old content before they can get to the 'new and cool' stuff you (as a veteran) have been hyping up, so it would at least cut back on the amount of time before you can do stuff together.
vivi1649: Yoshida: We'll be looking to implement a few changes going forward.
Average FFXIV Forumite/Redditor: THEY'RE REWORKING ALL JOBS, DUNGEONS, RAIDS AND EVERYTHING WILL BE ME TAILOR MADE FOR ME IN PARTICULAR!!!!
vincentbeton: Lets hope they'll finally have the guts to try something new and stick to it for a bit. So far it has usually been something new or risky every other Patch or so, then mostly forgetting about whatever new they came up with (as seen most recently with Criterion and Chaotic. Probably Quantum is next if nothing changes)
fyrefowl: Personally, I'm very optimistic for 8.0, I know there is a lot of doomerism about how the game is dying and how content is awful etc' etc' but until I'm proven wrong I'm really excited for the future of ffxiv.
thoby123: can't wait for FFXIV-2 1.0
more seriously - expect nothing and be pleasantly surprised
Rdkng07: I think they should add more button bloat, that way I can run two keyboards when I'm on my Dragoon and play them like a Hammond organ.
GalaxyPaz: "We want to evolve the game from this point" and "NEW REBORN EVOLUTION" are two very different things and I hate Games journalism so much
though I disagree with Yoshida, the point of an MMO is investment into the game and its community, which takes time and has already been trampled over the years, I do agree something
eolendes6432: I'm not gonna play another expansion where my role's gameplay is "spam glarebroil" in between the occasional heal oGCD.
MiddieTheFish: Obligatory "first" comment. Also have a like cause I'm tired of people posting the same video with different coats of paint about how the game is getting remade for sure for real no cap on god.
VGPorage: I think people on social media have forgotten how dire the 1.0 situation actually was to create such a extreme measure and how far away even DT still is from reaching that low.
thisisnotargun: I think the "Reborn" comment probably means 1 or 2 things.
1. Something REALLY significant could happen in the msq that sets up the next story arc. Like Dalamud level significance. (But probably not an engine overhaul or anything.)
And/or 2. They give people an optional story skip to 8.0.
Either way tho, I think 8.0 should be a big shakeup in a lot of aspects of the game.
CianaCorto: I quit XIV since dawnslop released, and I don't think I'm coming back until there's a radical change to the core gameplay loop. I don't like the weekly and daily caps. I don't like raid logging. I don't like having to find people to suffer through an ultimate with me because they will drop out or have to revolve my entire life around logging in for prog.
voledae: i think gw2 has one of the best ways of handling content for an mmo where you can level up to max level and then immediately start the recent expansion, the first expansion, or anything in-between. allow players the flexibility of how to play the story, if they want to play the story at all. they could implement this into the new game system so that players can play however they want.
murlocruse7180: Though I understand this is an MMORPG and it is indeed slow to get into and attain any content you can share with friends, I do not agree with your points. I started playing at the end of Shadowbringer and expected FF14 to be a Final Fantasy game. I expect from it an extensive story to play through. Otherwise there is no reason for it to be a Final Fantasy and can be any other IP. I'm also rerolling with a friend, playing with him through MSQ and we are having a blast. He is hyped for the endgame stuff and content, but he enjoys also the game for what it truly is.
Beside, I have to say that this "story gating" is actually a really good filter against unpopular type of players, like toxic ones, kids, and such. Thats partly how we keep a good community in this game unlike others like World of Warcraft that I loved for the longest time (Not the community tho).
ventus9702: No, every expansion he says the same thing and we got nothing new
socram3254: From the gameplay side, job design phyloshopy needs to change, I won't survive 3 more years of the current job design. From a system design side, glamour revamp should be their number 1 focus, because that would effectively make a decade of content more appealing and worth doing
Serenaya: Yoshi-P has often been full of hot air, but these words are a bit bigger and bolder than usual. I'm sure he knows the stakes at this point but words like this are not exactly something you can just shove under the carpet when you realise it's not gonna work out. Not this time.
Historically we've seen very little change, but it's not impossible. I'll believe it when I see it.
skwerlz: From the new player/leveling perspective, I almost quit over the weekend when it took 3 days to get through the level 50 story while skipping all of the hundreds of cutscenes. Just streamlining the story for new characters would be an insane quality of life improvement. It gets real old real quick when you walk back and forth between two npcs having endless conversations only to have to teleport halfway across the world for one cutscene and come back to the same two NPCs for another half hour of conversation spam.
mareczek00713: IMO they plan on changing mechanics about the game's progression, sure, but game being reborn another time is basically about future plans for the story - not going to lie, after FF14 1.0 we got another huge story arc that just ended and Dawntrail, while being a decent beach episode (as I see it this way, as a method of slowing down, chilling etc) introducing new land we still need something new thagt will be a running motif for next few expansions just as fighting ascians and empire were for 2.0 until Endwalker and game being re-reborn IMO is more about absolutely new story arc that will include more than one expansion.
bryson8918: Nope, nor should it.
yharnamjoinsthehunt8803: I've taken a break to play Where Winds Meet. They have lots of systems that FF14 devs could take inspiration from.
They reward for all types of play, be it social, pvp, exploration.
It's really shown me that I've been gaslighted by ff14 culture. I want to be pushed into exploration and engaging with lots of systems. All I feel i can do atm is cap tomes, upgrade gear that I won't use as im so far behind with raids etc.
I want multiple pathways when I play ff14. If one week I want to focus of crafting/gathering, then there should be some weekly focus and reward. WWW has a sect system which could be great for ff14. Let's say theres a combat/crafting&gathering/social sects that give you special rewards (daily, weekly, season). Let's say you focus on socialising, then spending time in housing, social hubs, emotes, music etc will reward you. Then you can gain access to gear that reflects the sect you're in (Let's say cap ilvl is 600, sect gear gives you 590 and is glamoured to reflect the sect you're in.
VallThyo: I hope so. I stopped playing after they changed Black Mage to be as simple as possible, like Summoner, and I wasn't really resonating with 7.0 content. Still love the game and I want to come back eventually, but every change is making things more simple instead of more intricate, interesting and challenging. To the point where I saw that it wasn't worth trying desperately to find fun in a game that was not for me and removing said mechanics to appeal to other players.
DarkCheex: Leveling jobs in this game is miserable. Im trying to get omni 100 and my god. Playing everything synced with half your kit just feels so bad. Whenever i actually have my entire kit on new jobs, i have no idea how tf to play it because you get synced for everyyyyythhhiinnnggg in this game. It is my biggest gripe with ff14.
