Ranking Every Village in Elden Ring Population Estimates

38Jim: Bro has topics I didn’t even know I was interested in

HeWhoSoars.: The early turtle (dog) gets the runes

TechNinjaSigma: Early Merry Christmas, Sir Lore Turtle

KurwaRomek: RIP to all the masons and carpenters

Also, Merry Christmas Lore Turtle

timr7349: It's insane to me that the Academy town is called a town when it it is really one of the largest population centers we see. Fun video, did not expect to spend part of today learning about population centers pre-Shattering in Elden Ring lol

SosigJared: I love these types of videos, it's like watching an elden ring documentary. I don't get why you're so underrated, bro.. And I hope you get the recognition you rightfully deserve!

agxryt: It seems to me that Marika herself (peace be upon her) blessed Jarburg. The flowers bloom like nowhere else, save for her ancient village. Perhaps this, tucked away in the Lands Between, was her shrine to her lost kin - a memorial

pkthunder416: If you kill Diallos while he's whining about his slave girl getting killed while running his errands in Liurnia, Jarburg never gets raided and Volcano Manor is slightly quieter.

lavabobcat2067: Dear Lore Turtle,

I’ve been having a rough time for the past few months as I adjust myself into adulthood. Since September I allow myself one thing after work every Sunday: to go to in and out burger and watch a YouTube video. It was a fateful late September evening when I came across your channel, and it’s been a staple of my life, routine, and ritual. Your videos means so much to me. Thank you for all of the quality work you put in and the thoroughness of examination of elden ring.

I wish you a merry Christmas.

Thank you again.

chito2701: i love the History channel voice, this makes the entire Elden ring lore narration more entertaining.

tegirvaru: this one was really interesting with so much attention to detail and inferring the purpose :)

DestroyerofIlluminateCulture: Can you do a video on food chains maybe???? I think it could be a great topic:3

Writh811: The Laskyar Ruins was actually apart of a pretty large settlement as well. The map marker only pops up in that ruin square but it clearly was part of a settlement along the path that leads up to it. I don't have any camera tools to do a top down count but I think it has some 15 ruins that can be clearly identified as buildings, some ruins appear to just be decorative arches along the road. The first building starts next to where you get "Liurnia, East" map. Following the road through the "town" you end up at the Laskyar Ruins portion, which is a large structure made of multiple connecting buildings that contains a gazebo with a gateway that teleports you directly to the South Gate of the Academy.

There aren't any Albunarics there. So I speculate, higher status folks lived in the Academy gate town. That status could be wealth or it could be magical talent, I'm not 100%. But the "high status" folks would likely have kept Albunaric servants and when the Shattering wars starts all the mages retreated into the academy leaving their servants. Meanwhile, if you lived in Laskyar you probably were lower status, therefor you had no servants. The Wraith Calls are likely what's left of the students that dwelled on this second campus who did not make it to the academy.

Unshattering the map in your mind and trying to reassemble their society causes dungeon/poi locations to make so much sense. Typically, if you can find a remains of a town there is always a church and a catacomb near by. These structures service the town. Laskyar campus was serviced by the Church of Irith for their spiritual needs. I theorize Thops was a Laskyar campus student and that is why he felt safe going to that church. Liurnia leans more into above ground burial but there are some catacombs, Cliff Bottom servicing Laskyar. But a better example of regional synergy is Caelem.

Caelem is actually just a few feet from the Forbidden Ruins to the point the Forbidden Ruins may have just been a manor at the edge of town. North of that is the Minor Erdtree Catacomb, the minor Erdtree may not have always been there but that catacomb would have had to been built while society was still functioning, aka before the shattering. Just west of the Catacomb is the Smoldering Church to service their spiritual needs. The Shack of Rotting shows signs of having been a farm. Sheep herding was big in the lands between but with no society eventually the fences fall down. Most places you find sheep and no fence, but we're in Caelid so it is fences with no sheep. Resource harvesting can be done in the mines of Gael Tunnel. This tunnel likely provided the stone for Caelem and Fort Gael to be built.

You can do that for most "towns" the map was interestingly designed to make sense if everything wasn't destroyed. Funny that it translate to "too many dungeons that all look the same" lol Aside from cost effective for the dev it makes sense in lore.

alexz765: I believe theres a tiny village called village of flies in the dlc but its probably gonna be the last place on this video if u included it
